The Top 10 Albums Of 2014 Maybe Or Maybe You Hated Them

10. X by Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran delivered a powerhouse album in 2014 and emerged as a great singer/songwriter and a storyteller. I think. Maybe he didn’t. What do you think? Some people don’t like his face or how his voice sounds. I don’t mind it.

9. The Pinkprint by Nicki Minaj

Wow. Nicki Minaj was not to be trifled with in 2014. She released the music video of the year with Anaconda. She recorded a catchy, great rap album. Plus, she somehow made butts more relevant in pop culture. Or maybe that was a bad thing. I really don’t know. It could go either way. What’s catchy to one person could be grating to someone else. Go ahead and trifle with her, I guess. I wouldn't but maybe you're into that.

8. Hozier by Hozier

Hozier is the breakout star of 2014. Where did this guy come from? If this album is an indication, we can expect him to be on lists like this one in years to come. Oh god, I just had the worst déjà vu. I said the same thing last year about Gotye and I was so wrong. Hozier could definitely be this year’s Gotye. I am not comfortable making definitive statements!

7. My Everything by Ariana Grande

Pop Princess. She looks great even when she is getting hit by a Victoria’s Secret angel on a catwalk. She has a great voice and she uses it well. I have zero musical ability. I have no idea if she is using her voice well. It seems like what she does is hard. Like, it seems like she tries hard when she is singing, which is good, right? Or really bad. Maybe you like your singers to appear effortless. I sometimes do.

6. Black Messiah by D'Angelo and the Vanguard

Finally, D’Angelo is back! Unless it’s too soon for you. Maybe 14 years wasn’t long enough of a wait before another album release. That seems like enough time to me, but an argument could be made for two decades.

5. FOUR by One Direction

4. The White Album by The Beatles

I know this didn’t come out in 2014 but I just wanted one album on here that I am sure everyone loves. What? You feel like by 1968, Beatlemania had become so great that the songwriting suffered on The White Album? They were so universally praised and hits were so guaranteed that they became lazy? You prefer Rubber Soul? WHY ARE YOU EVEN READING THIS LIST?

3. 1989 by Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift finally broke big this year and turned all of her haters into fans. That’s definitely not true. She turned most of her haters into fans, but definitely not all, right? There are still a bunch of people who don’t like her. Shake It Off is a great song though. Yeah, you’re right, it’s not my favorite on the album either.

2. In The Lonely Hour by Sam Smith

I’m putting my foot down. This is a great album. I love every song. It’s heartfelt. He has an amazing voice. There is nothing you can say about this album to detract from it. I’ll make it number 2 because there is just no way I am 100% right.

1. 1989 by Taylor Swift

You hated that it was number 3, right? You wanted it to be higher. Maybe lower? Do you not want Taylor Swift to have the best album of the year? I understand if that’s true. Just put her on this list wherever you want and feel free to change everything else too.
