NBC News also reports that military officials confirmed the men in the video were part of a sniper team out of Camp Lejeune, N.C., that served in Afghanistan for several months in early 2011.
In a statement, a U.S. Marine Corps official was quick to distance the organization from the video: “The actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values and are not indicative of the character of the Marines in our Corps.”
