Torschlusspanik is translated slightly wrong. “Schluss” in German is not only the end but also sth. that is closed. These words go back to midage where city gates had been cloased in the evening. So you had “Torschlusspanik” which means you feared that you would be locked outside the save city walls unprotected from whild animals and robbers.  Although it might be translated with midlife crisis I think it is used more commonly when someone is getting older, has NO wife and starts to fear he will never be able to raise his own family - so he is in the mood to marry just anyone not regarding if this person really fits.  (I am not a native English speaker. Hope you get the point anyway.)
