I am not a victim, but I have experienced several of these items. It’s not all or nothing. And it’s not that men don’t also experience some of these instances, but women tend to be the recipients of them more often. Men typically don’t get told that they ought to smile by random strangers. I doubt that advice has been given to men that they ought to avoid clothing types that cling or enhance their body shape lest they be taken less seriously. And for the most part, men are not told they’re being overly dramatic or emotional when they get frustrated or speak up about something that they find offensive. Women tend to be slut shamed almost exclusively. And with a shocking regularity. The fact that people who agree with these statements are accused of “playing the victim” or “looking for anything to be considered a slight” are proof that women expressing opinions are not taken seriously…
