Australia's political leaders have begun speaking out about the ridiculous treatment of Adam Goodes in the media. There's been a range of responses but one that sticks out...
The Liberal NSW Premier Mike Baird, known for his love of rugby league, has written an honest Facebook post calling for AFL fans around the country to stop the relentless booing.
Baird writes, "There is a place for good-natured heckling in Australian sport... but there is nothing fuzzy about this. The line has been crossed."
The statement is even more notable because fellow Sydney Liberal, prime minister Tony Abbott is yet to comment on the race debate playing out in the nation's media.
Opposition leader Bill Shorten tweeted his support for Goodes.
And Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young thought the Sydney Swans player would make a terrific MP.
Then there's the statement from former prime minister Kevin Rudd which came across as a little... mmm... well, it was very Kevin Rudd.
As reported by BuzzFeed News, indigenous leaders have released a forceful statement condemning the treatment of Goodes in the media.
Goodes has been granted indefinite leave from the Swans and the club said it's not guaranteed he'll lace-up the boots to play again.
Well as Mike Baird said on Thursday:
"Goodsey… I hope you feel the waves of support from the many thousands of supporters that have got your back. I can't wait for you to get back on the field. When you do, I'll be cheering loudly for you. And I won't be alone," said Baird."
