Every decade has it’s list of movie greats, worsts, and mediocrity. Some movies have aged well though the years while others are a product of their time. This is not a list about movies that were great or bad. This is simply the movies that made the most money during the year 1997.

#10 The Full Monty

#9 The Fifth Element

It's very unusual to have good vs evil, and the main protagonist and antagonist never meet in the entire movie. Also, it's a little strange to see these ships on the poster but they are not in the movie. Either way, "The Fifth Element" was a fun sci-fi flick.

#8 My Best Friend's Wedding

Julia Roberts returns in the hit rom-com. It's been awhile since Roberts has made an appearance in the top ten...and hopefully for my personal taste it will be a long time before I see her again (probably not though because audiences love her).

#7 Liar Liar

Jim Carrey returns to the top ten with this hit comedy. Carrey is a lying lawyer who is forced to tell the truth because of the birthday wish.

#6 As Good As It Gets

The drama-rom-com was a surprise hit. Jack Nicholson is an OCD author that ends up helping his neighbor and inadvertently makes the life better for his usual waitress. Audiences warmed up to this movie and Jack's character very quickly.

#5 Air Force One

Gary Oldman appears as a villain again in the top ten this year. This time with Harrison Ford in this action, survivor, cat-and-mouse, political thriller. By the way, Ford gives an awesome performance as a president America would love to have.

#4 Tomorrow Never Dies

007 returns. Centered more on action and less on espionage, "Tomorrow Never Dies" wasn't quite sure what to do with the Bond character since the cold was is officially over, and it shows. Audiences still supported Britain's superspy earning it number four in this year's top ten.

#3 Men In Black

Will Smith and aliens...again. This comic book turned movie was a huge hit not only in the box office, but in the radio waves too. "MIB" earned a tv-movie parody, two sequels, an animation tv show, a ride at Universal Studios, merchandise, and a hit album. "MIB" truly broke into pop culture in a big way. Not to mention, it's hilarious.

#2 The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Spielberg and team attempted to recreate the magic and pathos of the original, and failed. Although an underrated fun adventure film, audiences felt it was nowhere close to being as smart, scary, or as fun as the original. It still was a big enough hit to earn another sequel, which we won't speak of. Let's just skip to "Jurassic World."

#1 Titanic

Where to begin? Well, I guess I should say I'm one of the few that does not like this movie. In fact, loathe is a more appropriate word. This is strange because I love all of the rest of Cameron's work. However, to say this was a hit doesn't even begin to put it into perspective. Teenage girls crushed all over DiCaprio due to this movie. Celine Dion had an even bigger hit than Will Smith's "MIB." The film inspired several serious knock off films. Endless parodies of this film, especially the "I feel like I'm flying" bit were all over pop culture. The film won 11 Oscars. On top of all of that, "Titanic" was the highest grossing movie of all time, that is until Cameron created "Avatar."
