    What College Degree Fits You?

College is a time of self-discovery. You’ll learn new things about yourself and by the time you’ve gotten your diploma, ideally you’d already be your own person.

College is a time of self-discovery. You'll learn new things about yourself and by the time you've gotten your diploma, ideally you'd already be your own person. By the time you're done, you'd be armed with your own set of beliefs and you won't hesitate to fight for them.

However, you've just finished high school and have no idea what you're supposed to take. Of course you'd want to earn huge amounts of money when you grow old. That is why you're leaning toward taking a business course but part of you wants to make beautiful art and having a business degree means you've sold out, man. Or worse, your parents are forcing you to be a lawyer or doctor but you're really good at handling computers than legal books and forceps.

You're at an impasse now, thinking that one wrong decision will spell your future doom. Take a look at some of the highest enrolled degrees in Singapore and think which one you think you'd be good at.

    BUSINESS

If you want to leave a mark on the corporate world, having a business degree is essential. It is also ideal if you have an entrepreneurial mindset thinking of setting up your own business. With a degree like this, you'd learn the basics of running a business with a slew of subjects like finance, accounting, marketing, operations management, business law, and economics. You'll learn how trade works locally and internationally and how money revolves around the globe. A well-rounded background in these subjects will grant you a variety of career opportunities in the future as you'd acquire a practical skill set necessary for many a job. Make sure you're a team player though as you'd be assigned mostly in group work to simulate a real working environment.

    ENGINEERING

If you're a highly technical and analytical person, an engineering course would be perfect for you. A highly scientific mind is required in order to apply your knowledge into building, designing, or maintaining structure, machines, processes, etc. There are different kinds of engineering like mechanical, civil, chemical, agricultural, and a whole lot more so pick whichever catches your fancy. You should know that people with engineering degrees in Singapore have some of the highest-paying jobs so think about that

    INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Maybe you communicate better with computers than human beings. Or maybe you'd like to develop the next chapter in the Final Fantasy series or make the next killer app like the infamous Flappy Bird. If you have a background in coding and programming, that is a perfect skill to have since most of your subjects will revolve around these activities. You should also be a logical thinker since you're giving a machine commands and one wrong line could send your program crashing down. IT and computer sciences graduates are at an all-time high demand today so take that in mind when choosing a course.

    HEALTH SCIENCES

People die. And you want to do something about it. If you want to be a doctor, surgeon, dentist, or nurse and save people's lives, having a degree in a specific medical course will do you good. However, you should be prepared to cram your brain with loads of scientific knowledge since you'd be studying for 7 to 10 years before becoming a licensed doctor.

These are the highest enrolled college degrees in Singapore today. If these don't fit you, don't worry as there are more college courses to choose from. Fine arts, education, accountancy, marketing might suit you better. Remember, college is a time of self-discovery. If you find yourself unhappy with the choice you've made, it's not too late to shift courses and get a degree you truly want.
