    We've all seen the commercials about weight loss that say that you can "redefine your body" or that you can be "skinnier than ever before" all this and more right before bikini season! What you aren't being told in these commercials are a few facts that could damage one of the busiest industries in the world today.

    5. The Size of Your Genes!

    First, you should probably know that the weight that you are today is determined mostly by your genetics. 80% of your weight is determined by genetics, in fact. And you know what? When you say that, people are going to take it as an excuse for you to not lose weight. Maybe then you can hit them with a few more facts.

    4. The Industry is Getting Pretty Fat Itself

    The weight loss industry is a whooping 66 billion dollar industry. This has been growing over the years, and what people will tell you is that it's because people are getting fatter. What it really is, though, is the fact that people are becoming less and less accepting of someone who is fat.

    3. The Success of Failures

    So why does this industry keep getting bigger when people are investing this money to lose weight? Shouldn't they lose the weight and then not have to spend anymore money? Not quite. 85%-98% of people who diet fail. Those ads that you see that say stuff like "we have this many success stories" actually count all of the people who fail as a success. If you fail your diet and gain it all back, then go in again to lose it all again, you're counted as two different success stories. One person can account for dozens of the "successes".

    2. The Big Fat Lies About Health

    But maybe when you're looking to lose weight, you personally aren't doing it to look better. Maybe you care about your health. What may surprise you, though, is that there's not all that much that links weight to health issues. But wait. I thought all the obese people were dying off? Not really. There's more facts in that research that suggest fat people live longer lives, in fact. No one has ever studied the distinct correlation between being fat and dying, there were so many other factors in those deaths that no one bothered to research!

    And finally, and most importantly, you don't need to lose weight because there's nothing wrong with being fat. If other people don't like the way that you look, that's their problem; not yours! This life is about loving you, not loving how other people look at you, and weight shouldn't be the most important factor in your life.
