People In Their 20s *And* 50s Love These 25 Beauty Products

It turns out...pimple patches are forever.

    1. CeraVe's Retinol Serum, which lives up to the CeraVe name and uses *encapsulated* retinol to reduce the appearance of scars and pores without flaking or redness. If you haven't gotten into retinoids yet or are worried about irritating your skin, this gentle but effective serum is a great option for everything from acne to dark spots — and reviewers say they like it better than other more expensive options (like Murad's Retinol Serum, which retails for $92).

A reviewer's before/after with reduced redness, texture, acne and scarring
Before and after comparison of a person's forehead, with the after showing reduced appearance of wrinkles

And remember, like with any retinol (that actually works) *just do not use it every day.* Start slow and work yourself up if needed, paying attention to your skin.

Promising review: "This product is life-changing (paired with a Cerave cleanser too)!!! I am 26 years old and have [had] acne most of my twenties. I began using the Cerave cleanser, and afterward, I use this serum twice a day. Morning and night. I finish my skincare routine with Cerave moisturizer (and an organic sunscreen). They’ve left my skin nearly totally spotless, and I’ve only gotten mild zits around the time of my period (which is normal). This serum truly aids in reducing post-acne marks and it’s also good to use in order to prevent fine lines. I’ve even applied the serum to ingrown hair marks on my legs, and they’ve gotten lighter. I’ve just received my second bottle and will continue to use this serum probably forever. The serum is lightweight and quickly absorbs into the skin. I’m seriously in love and happy with the results of using this serum and the Cerave cleanser and moisturizer. (Btw, I have *extremely* sensitive skin, and this product, along with the other Cerave ones I’ve used, have *not* negatively impacted my skin. That is a first!)" —Kat

Promising review: "Shocked. I’ve tried several types of creams/serums for the dark spots on my face. Saw this and bought it on a whim. I really wish I had taken before and after shots, but not having been very optimistic, I didn’t. Been using this for six weeks, and I definitely see a difference in the sun damage and dark spots on my face. I’ve also started using it on a wrinkled/freckled place on my chest and I’m seeing improvement there too. Impressed and will keep using it! (53 years old, sun damage, freckles and dark spots)" —Jennaofthejungle

    2. Or prescription-strength Differin Retinoid gel, because it's a true classic for a reason. It is designed to promote and "normalize" skin cell turnover, which can help clear existing breakouts, combat inflammation and prevent the actual production of acne in the future.

Different reviewer's results of using Differin gel after five weeks, with the before picture showing breakouts and hyperpigmentation on their cheek and the after photo showing their face noticeably clearer without breakouts or hyperpigmentation
Reviewer's results of using Differin gel after three weeks, with the before picture showing breakouts all over their face and the after photo showing their face noticeably clearer with breakouts mostly healed

Promising review: "I use this gel retinoid product regularly to remain wrinkle and line-free at age 51. In my opinion, a retinoid is a more effective anti-ager than a retinol. This Differin gel smooths and tightens my facial skin when used regularly. You might find your skin so tight you will need to stop using it for a few days, then go back. I’m currently on a 4 days on/3 days off regime as I work my way up to 7 days a week application. Make sure you use it in conjunction with a high-quality hydrating face and eye cream to mitigate the drying effects of a retinoid. Extremely affordable product that produces results! Definitely recommend in lieu of much more expensive retinol products." —TickledPink

Promising review: "I have literally never written a review for a product in my entire life, but this has changed my life so much that I felt compelled in hopes of helping someone else who may be in the situation I once was. I have had acne since I was 14 years old, and I'm 29 now. I have tried every acne product imaginable, including prescriptions from a dermatologist and chemical peels, and nothing helped. I decided to try Differin because it couldn't hurt. I'm so glad I did! I have now been using it for approximately three weeks, and I have zero pimples or breakouts. Even the stubborn acne on my cheeks that has been there for years is starting to clear. My skin looks flawless. I started having results after only the first week, and it has just improved from there. It is harsh on the skin and causes peeling. However, I just use a moisturizer that doesn't clog the pores, and it takes care of that problem. I can't say enough positive things about Differin. It has changed my life forever!!!!" —Jennifer Tarves

    3. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer, a cult-fave reviewers have used for *years* for a reason — it brightens your under eyes without creasing while treating them with goji berry and haloxyl — plus, it'll last even LONGER than Tarte's Shape Tape and other expensive brands.

Promising review: "I am older (50 plus) and have very fair skin and medium circles and lines under my eyes. I find that I can NOT wear thicker concealers anymore as they just settle in lines. This concealer is very silky and does a very good job of covering dark spots as well as smooth out the lines. I use it without the sponge as I feel the sponge just absorbs the product, but to each their own. I have tried high-end beauty lines that just sit in my makeup case because they did not deliver what they promised, but this is an awesome product, and it is very affordable. Will stock up on it just in case...." —Holly

Promising review: "This stuff is great! I am 22 years old and am not fighting with fine lines (yet), so I can't attest to the "treatment" aspect of this product. I do, however, have dark bags under my eyes. Up until this product, the only thing I found that could cover up the darkness and last all day was this stuff called Bye-bye Undereye. It was thick and took effort to apply; it irritated my face and dried my skin and only really worked with a powder over it. This stuff, though, is great. It is lightweight and non-irritating, I can easily wash it off in the shower at night, and it can be worn alone! The sponge makes it easy to apply. Just dab or swipe and blend with your fingers. This is by far the quickest to apply under-eye concealer I have tried. From my second use on, I have never spent more than 30 seconds covering up my dark circles. A++. It is affordable. Buy it with no regrets." —kim

Promising review: "This product is the best acne remedy I have ever used on my face! I am 23 years old, and I have struggled with stress for years, and it has caused cystic acne. I have tried so many different products, and I have pretty sensitive skin. These patches have relieved so much pressure in my acne and have cleared them up beyond words! Seriously, these honestly work!! I will be a loyal customer for sure. I cannot thank this product enough. I just got over my period and had awful cystic acne. Usually, my acne would be in pain for a whole week after my period... I used these patches right away when I felt pressure in a spot on my face. My period is now over, and my face is completely cured and healing with minor scars!! I am so confident and feel relieved!" —Loyal Amazon Customer

Promising review: "I am 52 and still get the occasional pimple, and sometimes they’re quite large. I can put these on at night and by morning, they are still on. They reduce the pimples overnight by about 75%, for me at least. So when morning comes, I remove it, wash my face, and put on a new one. It will stay on all day! I loooove this essence for whenever I need an added boost of hydration. It absorbs into the skin beautifully!

Promising review: "This is very affordable and highly effective. Snail mucin essence leaves my skin balanced, hydrated, dewy, and fresh. It's also healing and highly recommended for sensitive or acne-prone skin. My skin is dry/combo/sensitive/mature. Also great for plumping and healing fine lines. I use it after toner and before serum and moisturizer. On a lazy day, I might just rinse my face and slather this on, especially during the heat waves. Use a pump or three, and apply to the face, neck, and decollete, including the eye area. Cosrx is a Korean beauty brand that is affordable and effective, comes highly recommended by my favorite beauty blogger, and snail mucin essence is one of the K beauty products that has transformed my skin. I went from dry skin with stubborn fine lines to dewy, hydrated skin with greatly diminished fine lines. My skin acts like it's normal. I'm 55 and get mistaken for 10-20 years younger. It's fantastic!" —Lady In LA

Promising review: "This stuff is amazing! Makes my skin so soft and clear and fresh! It’s [wild] how I woke up the next morning after cleansing my skin the night before and applying the snail mucin! The dark circles around my eyes were significantly lighter! I ran and woke up my daughter to show her the difference!! She was astonished! No kidding, no exaggeration! We both use it! Her acne has cleared, and her face looks so fresh! Must get! After buying it, I loved it so much that I bought the shampoo and conditioner. OMG. I wanted to cut it all off till I started using this 6 WEEKS ago. THIS IS ONE OF MY TOP 5 FAVE AMAZON PRODUCTS. Promising review: "I am 24 years old and have always had thin and patchy hair, and it has always bothered me to see patches of really thin hair on the sides of my head when I put my hair up. I did a lot of research on different products, oils, etc., and decided to try this product about one year ago. I truly feel so happy about this decision! My hair has visibly become a lot thicker in those areas. I work out 3-6 times a week, and I make sure to apply this oil to my hair before each workout. I then wash it out in the shower after my workout, and I have found this to be the most successful process for my hair. I highly recommend this product!" —Claudia Reino

Promising review: "I saw reviews of this product and decided to try it. I am 57 and don’t have a lot of wrinkles. I’ve always had decent skin, but it has lost its youthfulness in recent years. I figured this cream would make me feel like I was doing something to slow the process a little. My experience with other products is that they don’t seem to make a difference. Well, I’ve been using this nightly for two weeks, and I noticed a dramatic difference in my skin. It looks like my skin used to look. I’m a little stunned! I wasn’t expecting this! I am using the daytime lotion along with it. If you are on the fence, buy it! It is a reasonably priced product that does the work of the most expensive products. I don’t even need to wear makeup! My skin is glowing!" —Trish

Promising review: "Love this product. Goes on smooth, absorbs quickly, minimal to no order. Does what it says it will do and truly “renews” tired skin. Going into my mid-twenties, it’s so important to keep your skin hydrated and supple. I wake up in the morning with supple, hydrated, moist skin. I have very temperamental skin with moisturizers and creams in the past. I’ve been avoiding my T area with this and slowly introducing it, but so far so good. Follow up with a vitamin C serum after application. In this bitter cold northeast winter, this has been keeping my skin alive. Highly recommend a humidifier at night for your skin and health as well. At least up north, indoor air can reach desert-like humidity levels in the winter. Invest in your skin, and it will show! Try this out!" —CW

For a few years, I’ve been going to the hairdresser at the beginning of the week for a blowout and then touching it up (at the edges) during the week. This is a game changer!! I’ll be saving money on visits to the hairdresser, and it looks great. (I love my sister-in-law even more now!!)" —Regina

Promising review: "Awesome product! Been using it for three weeks, along with the brightening eye cream as well as tretinoin at night; I don't put the tret on my eyes btw. Haven't had a proper skincare routine for years; I'm a smoker too since 20, turning 29 soon. Before using this, my skin had been dull with a lot of uneven texture with tons of hyperpigmentation from cortisol-induced acne. Student life... My hyperpigmentation has decreased by about 50-60%, texture is still improving. But the dewy brightening effect has been divine! Especially around the cheeks and eyes, works like a highlighter. Reduction in hyperpigmentation has boosted my confidence tenfold, I feel happy to go out now with this dewy skin! My skin hasn't felt smoother or looked healthier since before I started smoking! Will be buying for life, hoping I can get the 80 ml when it's not sold out!" —BotTech

Promising review: "I've [had] cystic acne since my early teens (am now in my late twenties). With a diligent skincare routine, I've been able to combat the acne, but am left with a lot of hyperpigmentation. This oil really helps to fade the hyperpigmentation, and I think definitely is helping to keep the acne at bay. It also has made my skin feel so soft, nourished, and glowy. Definitely not giving this one up. The only weird thing I've noticed is that if I don't wash my hands immediately after using this product, anything I touch afterward gets a really sticky film on it. Not sure if this is the case with all rose hip seed oils or just this one, since this is the only one I've used." —Amazon Customer

    16. Bioderma micellar water, a perfect addition to your double cleansing routine — it removes allllll your makeup and excess oil without harsh scrubbing or irritating sensitive skin. Now you'll know you've actually removed your sunscreen and makeup before bed — without having to use those aggressive makeup wipes.

I use this micellar water to take off my makeup before cleansing! Everything comes off beautifully and it doesn't feel greasy at all = a double win in my book.

Promising review: "I've used several brands of micellar water, and I keep coming back to this one. I'm not brand loyal to very many products, but this is one. I use this with a microfiber face cloth to avoid cotton pad waste. On no-make-up days, it can be a one-and-done cleaner to remove sunscreen and sweat. On full-face makeup days, it's a fantastic second step to make sure you get it all. I find it effective at removing any leftover eyeliner and mascara left behind by my first cleanse, too (but it's not my primary eye cleanse). I also use it on a Q-tip to clean up any eyeliner mistakes during application. I recently picked up a bottle of Simple Micellar to see if it was any better than I remembered, but no. The other brand is vastly inferior to Bioderma. There's a reason Bioderma is the "cult following" product in this space — it is just better. My skin is 50+ and can be dry, but this product does not dry it out at all." —Magwart

Promising review: "This product is simply amazing. I've struggled most of my life with very acne-prone skin. And ever since I got on birth control after my second child, I've found, at 23 years old, that my acne became worse all over my body. I have invested in Curology for my skin treatment. They advised this product to me for a cleanser/makeup remover for my sensitive skin. I was extremely impressed by how much it not only removed but didn't strip my skin dry of the natural oils it needs. Which was very important to me since most cleansers dry me out. This is amazing for makeup removal and doing so in a way that helps your skin stay healthy." —Holli

Promising review: "Love love LOVE this product! I’m 24, have hormonal acne on my chin that can’t seem to be solved by anything.... but this face wash works wonders! It doesn’t leave my face feeling tight and dry after a wash. It’s gentle enough for anyone with sensitive skin and acne. There’s no real scent to it, which, in my opinion, is great when it comes to skincare (who needs those extra irritating perfumes anyways?)" —Taylor Combs

Promising review: "Wow. If I could give more than five stars, I would! I have been on a wild search for nail strengtheners all 27 years of my life. I’ve tried every nail product in stores and every home remedy, and my nails would peel and flake. I wish I had taken before pictures because, after a week, I went from chips and peels in every nail on my hand to perfectly healthy-looking nails. I wish I had known about this product sooner in my life, and I will recommend it to everyone I meet!!!!!!" —Kelsey

Promising review: "I was skeptical that this would do anything for my fragile nails. Four months later, I'm stunned that my nails are not chipping and peeling like they used to, and even the ridges are diminishing. When I look at the quarter-inch or so of growth from the nail bed that has occurred since I started using this product, I see nice, smooth, healthy nails. I can't wait to see what they look like several months from now when the entire nail has had a chance to grow out. I apply the oil all around the nail, including under the tips of the nails before I go to bed most nights and massage it in while I watch the evening news. Promising review: "This brush saved my hair! I’m over 50, and thinning hair is a thing… I've been seriously stressing over the amount of hair I was losing with every brushing. My (very high dollar) stylist has offered every suggestion she can: boar bristled brushed, this oil that oil, detangling serums and sprays etc. Nothing has made a difference, but this brush has!! I’m not sure how or why, but my hair slips easily through, wet or dry! I start at my ends and easily make my way up to the crown with almost no snags or pulls. Buy this. It’s worth every cent."—LS

Promising review: "It definitely was worth the money. I thought this looked a bit childish but the reviews were so good I decided to try it. I am 20 years old with thick, curly hair, and my hair tends to get tangled a lot, especially when I am trying to comb it out in the shower. But this not only reduced the pain I felt when untangling my hair, my scalp barely felt the brush as it combed, and it definitely combs. It also tugged out much less hair than normal, which made me extremely happy with this product! I was worried about using it in the shower, but it was perfectly fine. And it's super easy to clean." —AlluringJ

    20. Essence's Lash Princess mascara, which over *200,000* 5-star reviewers swear by for dramatic length and volume *without* clumps, thanks to the flake- and gob-free formula and cone-shaped brush.

Promising review: "I’m in my early fifties, and this is the best mascara I’ve ever used! I work in hot, humid weather, and this does not run down your face, nor does it flake. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to find at such a great price! I also use the primer for that extra boost. You won’t regret this purchase!" —Mn Shopper

Promising review: "Okay, look. I am 27 years old. I have been wearing mascara for a long time. Probably fifteen years or something. I have short, straight lashes that get tangled together, and the top ones tangle into the bottom ones. I have tried everything short of super high-end mascara because I am CHEAP, and I don't want to waste money on it if it's going to be something else that doesn't work. So when this went on sale on Prime Day, and my mom recommended it, I figured I might as well give it a shot. I had nothing to lose except a few dollars because I had no hope left. Well, butter my buns and call me a biscuit, because I was so pleasantly surprised by this mascara. It separates my lashes where they tangle without getting all over my lid, which is another problem I run into. It doesn't smudge easily and doesn't run in the rain or when I sweat or get teary (I live in Alabama, and I am a weepy gal, so you can imagine this is a huge feat). My lashes look, well, like they exist after one coat, and with two or three, they're separated, not clumpy, thick, and long. Like I said, I've used dozens of mascaras at various price points, and I really think this is the best one. I do recommend using the primer that goes with it if you have shorter, thinner, or blonder lashes like mine. It's good alone, but I definitely see a difference using it together. It's one of the better primers I've used, as well. It dries quickly but doesn't get so crunchy you can't put mascara on top easily, and again, doesn't make my lashes tangled, which is just such a huge deal for me, I truly cannot express to you. If you're on the fence, get it. It's absolutely worth the price and might be the best one you've tried!" —Arin

    21. Elizabeth Mott's cult favorite Thank Me Later eyeshadow primer to keep your favorite eye makeup look on lock all day AND all night — *no* creasing. That's right, you will NOT have to reapply before your evening plans.

Promising review: "I have tried a gazillion shadow primers, and this is the absolute best. I'm 50+, and when my eyelids started to sag (age y'all), I started to have trouble with creasing eyeshadow. I use this in the a.m. and my eye makeup looks the exact same before I wash my face at bedtime. Seriously, the best!" —Amazon Customer

Promising review: "I’ve never been one for eyeshadow since my regrettable emo phase in middle school, but now I’m in my twenties, I decided to try a more adult eyeshadow coloring, and this is a fantastic product!! I am running around all day in a pretty warm building, and it stays on all day for 11+ hour shifts. Even when I went outside in a blizzard with snow in my face, there was no creasing or smudging. It’s moisturizing without being oily. It has almost no smell and does not make my eczema-prone skin flare up at all!!!" —Team-Garra

Promising review: "As someone in their fifties, I've found it increasingly challenging to find makeup products that can effectively cover the various signs of aging that naturally appear on the face over time. My skin has become drier and tends to look quite dull despite my efforts to maintain its health through regular cleansing, moisturizing, and hydration. However, I've discovered this product not only provides excellent coverage but also imparts a subtle, youthful glow, making my skin look more radiant and healthy. It's been a pleasant surprise to see that this product outperforms many of the high-end cosmetic brands I've tried, especially considering its more affordable price point. This find has been a game-changer for me, proving that you don't always have to spend a fortune to get effective makeup suitable for mature skin." —Mktac

Promising review: "The best foundation/base I've ever tried. I know that it’s technically not a foundation, but I’ve been using it as one, and it’s amazing. I’m in my early twenties, so I haven’t had a need for a fuller coverage foundation. Everything else that I’ve tried has either broken me out or looks like sludge once I leave the house (Texas heat is no joke!). It has just enough tint to it so that it makes my skin look even, but it doesn’t make my pores look huge or settle into the crevices around my face. It has a nice dewy glow, but it doesn’t make me look moist, which is great because I have oily skin. If I set it (I use the same powder), it lasts all day without even needing primer. The only thing I’m not [wild] about is that it’s a wand applicator and not a pump, but that’s not a big deal, just personal preference." —Sophia

Promising review: "I am 59 years old and have long hair, and although it is thinner than it used to be, I still have a lot of hair. With age, I have noticed that the texture of my hair is very different as well I have stopped coloring for many years, and I'm almost completely gray. My hair is very dry and I saw this advertised several times and finally decided to try it. I was truly a skeptic but this stuff is really great. I've used it about four or five times in the last three weeks, and I can feel the difference in my hair. My hair is very soft and feels full. I use it in place of my conditioner in the shower, when I use it and when I get out of the shower, I can drag a comb through my hair while it's wet. I cannot do that generally without fighting with tangles and knots. I highly recommend that you try it." —Monica

Promising review: "This collagen coating treatment is one of the best masks I have ever used, and I have tried a lot of masks over the years. I have been on a hair care journey since I was about 17 when I ruined my hair trying to go ombré. Now, at the age of 23, I have long black hair all the way down to my waist. I have searched everywhere for masks that will keep my hair healthy considering how long it is. This mask makes it so much easier to detangle my hair after a shower, which is one of the things I hate having to do because of the length. I only wash my hair about two times a week, so I use this product each time I wash my hair. 10/10 would recommend!!!!!!" —Leslie

Bedsure's satin pillowcase to help maintain hair and skin health even as you sleep, reducing pesky frizz and breakage when compared with regular cotton or other fiber pillowcases — that means longer-lasting blowouts and less damage in the long run. This is my go-to satin pillowcase. I have two Slip pillowcases, and several of these, and actually, the Bedsure ones wash up much nicer and retain an incredibly silky smooth feel after dozens of trips through the laundry. They're the only ones I'll buy going forward, and I recommended them to my mom, and now she's in love with them, too!

Promising review: "As a woman in her fifties, I try to take care of my skin and hair. I’m often a stomach sleeper, and one morning, I woke up with creases near my eye from the pillowcase. This pillowcase prevents that from happening. And is easy on the hair. My teenage daughter took the second pillowcase for herself, so I bought another set. Well worth the low price!" —Kim

Promising review: "I don’t know what to say. My hair has never been this soft, not since I was a child. I’m 27, and I have this dry patch of hair at the back of my head that has bothered me for YEARS. My hair is super long, and it isn’t noticeable to anyone but me, but I feel it, and I hate it. I thought MAYBE it was because my pillowcase was drying my hair out (I sleep on my back, it made sense), but I didn’t want to spend 50+ bucks on a silk pillowcase. They’re so overpriced. This is PERFECT. You DO NOT need to spend that kind of money on a pillowcase. This one is perfect and my hair was literally soft as butter the NEXT. MORNING." —Jessica

Promising review: "I’m 26 and have had dry feet for a long time, but has gradually gotten worse after I had my kids. My feet were so bad that it was putting holes in my socks and making me so insecure. I have tried literally every brand and type of cream, pumice stone, callus shavers, and graters you can think of, and I was at a total loss. I found this right before Christmas, read the reviews, and decided to buy it for myself, and OH MY GOD, it has changed my life!!! Promising review: "I am 53, and I have had thick calluses on my heels since childhood. This is better than a pedicure.
