Humanity has seen music rise and die for a very long time. We have seen blues, rock and roll, grunge, and many other genres die off in terms of popularity. The question that arises from this is, what era of music are we currently in now?
The way that things have been going in the hip-hop scene I think we are at the peak of the genre's existence. Yes the '90s could be a toss up for the best time in hip-hop; however, I think that the artists of today have learned from the past and have made the best of both worlds. There are so many separate genres of hip-hop it's slowly turning into the EDM scene of 2011.
That brings up our next question, is EDM still alive? The answer simply is, yes. The EDM scene has shaped society so much that in its short existence the sound has permeated into every aspect of pop culture. It's in movies, commercials, and on the radio. Our media has been flooded with the EDM movement. I think the same is happening with hip-hop, but at a much slower pace.
With EDM and hip-hop being the music of our current generation we will see plenty more collaborations between the two genres. This is a movement that has been growing lately. In terms of the future they might be considered under the same genre.
