2015 Emmy's Recap

It was three hours long and had a lot of awards. Here's a quick summary of the important stuff.

At this year’s Emmy’s, host Andy Samberg fell a bit flat with his jokes and skits, but waiting for the big winners of the evening and their following speeches kept everyone on their edge of their seats.

In the Comedy field, HBO’s Veep and Amazon’s Transparent traded off winning categories, as did their stars. Veep took home Outstanding Comedy Series while Julia Louis-Dreyfus took home Best Actress and Tony Hale took home Best Supporting Actor, whereas Jeffrey Tambor won Best Actor and Jill Soloway won Best Director. Allison Janney snuck in for a win in Supporting Actress for her role in Mom.

In the Drama field, in a surprising result, Game of Thrones took home most of the titles with Directing, Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage, and Writing. Mad Men pulled out one last Emmy for its remaining season, going to Jon Hamm winning Best Actor. How to Get Away With Murder also grabbed an award after its first season, with Viola Davis winning Best Actress and delivering a breathtaking acceptance speech after being the first ever black woman to win in the category. And let’s not forget about Uzo Aduba, grabbing Supporting Actress for her role as Suzanne in Orange is the New Black.

In the Miniseries field, Olive Kitteridge won every award but one. The remainder, for Supporting Actress, went to Regina King for her role in American Crime. Additionally, this was the first year that the Emmy’s offered a category for Variety Sketch Series. The award went to Inside Amy Shumer, and Amy hinted in her speech that there were at least two more years of the show to come. The Daily Show swept up the Variety Series awards, letting you know there’s only one show to look for when it comes to late night TV.

While the Emmy's dig drag through all the less interesting categories *cough* reality series *cough* it was still an interesting summary of the year, and a great way to find out what to spend your free time, and your Netflix subscription, on.
