You can't go wrong with bread, cheese, and fries.

The Dutch are known for their bikes and legal weed, which is cool and all, but now we have to talk about their food. Sure, the Netherlands is not famous for its dishes, as most are on the bland side. But there are some stand out items that everyone NEEDS to know about.

Stroopwafel

Hello human, please meet this stroopwafel. Stroopwafel is two thin waffle cookies stuck together by a sweet syrup. Your life is better now.

Bitterballen

Beef, butter, herbs, and a bunch of other good stuff rolled into a ball, FRIED, and then you dip it all in MUSTARD. Yes please.

Hagelslag

Hagelslag is chocolate sprinkles that you just spread on bread and eat. Why is this not a thing everywhere?

Kaassouffle

Fried pocket of cheese. LIke a mozzarella stick but better.

Frites

Or, as the locals call it, patat. They are more than just fries. they are magical. They are the best fries in the world and dutch mayo makes them better. You can get them at basically any restaurant, at a stand every five feet in Amsterdam, or at the beautiful Dutch fast food place that is Smullers.
