7 Things Learned At ASB Service Sites

With all the time we are getting to spend at service sites, there are surely some things that you will learn!

1. How to chop like a chef

Many of our sites are at different prep kitchens or soup kitchens, one of the many skills that are put to the test are chopping! From onions, to tomatoes, to lettuce we have it all!

2. Hairnets are a lovely look

No one wants hair in their meal (ew..) so these will be your best friend throughout the week. And you have a beard? No problem! Hair nets come for all type of hair found on your head and face :)

3. Gardening is needed and hard work

Community gardens are great ways to increase nature in cities, as well as increasing local produce. Some of our ASBers will get to help preserve these and try their hand digging and planting!

4. Cleaning isn't just for Cinderella anymore...

One way to help combat homelessness is to help the elderly with the cleaning of their homes. This increases the likelihood that they can keep their homes. So pull on your best rubber gloves and get ready to clean away!

5. How to organize better than the Sorting Hat from Harry Potter

Some service sites involve sorting donations, or putting together packages to give out. All of these sites hone in on your ability to sort and organize materials.

6. A smile goes a long way

It can be tiring throughout the week, however entering a service site with a smile and positive attitude can make such a difference in the work you get done and what you get out of each site.

7. Friends make every site that much better

We are all on this trip and working together. Getting to bond and create new friendships is a major part of ASB. So let these connections blossom during time at service sites. So don't be afraid to talk to one another (when appropriate) and come to see what every member of your group has to offer.
