Trying to find a new show to marathon watch can be frustrating, but this list includes all the best shows for the job:

1. The Wire

Although The Wire went off the air more than 10 years ago, this is still one of HBO's most acclaimed crime drama series and is cited as one of the greatest TV shows ever made. The show takes a realistic look at Baltimore, Maryland, along with its drug scene, police department, schools, and media. This show helped spark the careers of Michael B. Jordan, Idris Elba, and Aidan Gillen.

2. The Sopranos

Don't think I'm saying The Sopranos is worse in any way than The Wire. Both of these shows could very well share the first-place spot. Nevertheless, this award-winning HBO series follows Tony Soprano, an Italian-American mobster who has to balance family life with organized crime. With 111 Emmy nominations overall, The Sopranos took home 21 honors and is considered one of the most groundbreaking series ever made.

3. Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is considered one of the greatest TV shows of all time; it became the most-watched cable TV show on American television and the most critically acclaimed of all time. In short, the show follows Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, a high school chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin.

4. Game of Thrones

Based on George R.R. Martin's beloved series of novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, this became one of HBO's greatest hits, with the show taking on a life of its own. This show is a medieval fantasy epic that follows the deadly adventures of two powerful families as they battle for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. 

5. Entourage

Entourage is based on Mark Wahlberg's real life in the early '90s before developing a movie career in Hollywood. Mark was the executive producer, and most of the characters in the show are based on his real life friends. The show follows the career of Vincent Chase, an actor from Queens who brings his crew of friends from the old neighborhood along with him on his ride to Hollywood stardom.

6. Narcos

One of the most popular originals on Netflix, Narcos is a drama that follows the real-life stories of the Colombian drug trade of the late 1980s. I recommend specifically Season 1 and Season 2, which focus on the infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar.

7. Peaky Blinders

This British period crime drama is set in Birmingham, England, and follows the activities of the fictional Shelby crime family after the first World War. Peaky Blinders follows the story of the main character and head of the family, Tommy Shelby, who is played by Cillian Murphy. The Peaky Blinders themselves were a real gang based in Birmingham, but the story told in the show is fiction.

8. Suits

USA Network

Suits is my biggest sleeper hit of this entire list. The show follows a hotshot Manhattan lawyer who hires a talented college dropout despite his lack of a law degree. Although the premise can seem uninteresting, the cases in Suits are morally complex, as are the characters. One of the main stars of the show was Meghan Markle, who would go on to become a royal — marrying Prince Harry in May 2018.

9. Friday Night Lights

After adapting the non-fiction book Friday Night Lights into a 2004 film, a television series was shortly developed. The show focuses on a high school football team in a small town called Dillion, Texas. The series displays the struggles and tribulations of the modern teenager in south Texas. The show helped accelerate the careers of actors Kyle Chandler, Jesse Plemons, and Michael B. Jordan.

10. House of the Dragon

Based on material from George R. R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon tells the story of the "Dance of Dragons" and the events leading up to the brutal civil war. The show is set two centuries before the Game of Thrones we know. An era when the Targaryens ruled the Seven Kingdoms and dragons were plentiful.
