Celtic superfan Jay Beatty wins the SPL Goal of the Month...with 97% of the votes!

11 year old scored the best goal in Scotland this January!

11 year old Celtic fan Jay Beatty stole many hearts last week, when he won the Scottish Goal of the Month competition. The 11 year old, who has Down's syndrome, became famous in his own right, when Celtic striker Georgios Samaras plucked him from obscurity and carried him through the crowds to join in with last seasons title winning celebrations.

Images and footage of the occasion were broadcast around the world, and 'wee Jay's' smile had everyone captured, with the sweet gesture of Samaras gaining plaudits worldwide.

The goal, a penalty which Jay netted in a halftime competition during a match between Celtic and Hamilton Academial, was included on Hamilton's Twitter page as being part of the final score (showing as 3-0, instead of 2-0).

As if winning wasn't enough, Jay came out on top with 97% of the votes, a landslide victory if ever there was one! With Celtic FC fighting his corner though, and some of the most influential footballers around crossing their fingers for a win, he definitely had a great team behind him.

It isn't all smooth sailing for the mini celebrity though. A Twitter troll posted a picture of Jay, with the wording 'Disabled piece of s***' as a caption. The account that posted this has since been removed, and Police Scotland are currently investigating the issue.
