6 Things From The Avengers: Age Of Ultron We've Already Seen In Buffy

So Joss Whedon has a habit of recurring themes and character archetypes, but this time it seems he may have gone and copied and pasted a few things straight from his hit series Buffy The Vampire Slayer in to the new Avengers.

1. Magic Hammer Jokes.

In Buffy, it is a long running joke that no-one can pick up Olaf the troll's hammer but the Slayer herself. In Age of Ultron no one can pick Thor's hammer either.

It is implied that Olaf's hammer belonged to a god- could it be the same tool? If it was, does that mean that Buffy is stronger than captain America? Is Buffy worthy to rule Aserath between seasons 5 and 6??

2. Aaaaand, Not-being-worthy Jokes.

In Buffy episode 21 of season 2 Becoming Part 1, Spike makes fun of Angel for not being worthy- sound familiar?

Yes I am looking at you Thor.

3. It's Alive!

Trying to create an all powerful sentient being to protect the earth backfires because it cannot be controlled. The creation decides to rally an army to destroy all humans.

Deja Vu? Could be Adam in Buffy season 4, could be Ultron in the Avengers.

4. From the Inside….

Whedon just loves the whole, the-enemy-infiltrates-the-hero's minds thing. Whether it is literal like in Entropy season 6 where Buffy starts thinking that she is in an insane asylum or figuratively like in The Yoko Factor season 4 where Spike pitches the scoobies against each other. And of course, it is basically the First's only power. Sorry Scarlet Witch, been there done that- Now I come to think of it, wasn't Willow a bit of a Scarlet Witch herself?

5. Can't Date a Monster.

Just like poor old Black Widow, Buffy, Willow and Xander have their hearts broken falling in love with people with extraordinary abilities and a very dark side.

The conversation about the impossibilities of the future between Banner and Natalia is very similar to Buffy and Angel's break up in season 3. As is his leaving at the end of the film- Reminiscing both Angel and Oz leaving to protect their lovers.

6. Direct Lines.

A few insanely geeky members of the audience may have noticed that there are some lines that have without any alterations been copied and pasted from Buffy to the Avengers.

Such as, you ask?

"We are not all going to make it."

"Is that all you've got?" "You had to ask"

Maybe these are generic lines, maybe these are conscious choices, laziness or just what keeps popping up in Whedon's head during fictional war?
