Wrong. 63% of students polled by Which? University said that employment prospects or the pursuit of a vocation were the main reasons for going to university – that's right, savvy students are planning for the future, and not just their next night out.
Okay, but seriously, they're only going to uni so they can drink their bodyweight in jagerbombs, play video games and pretend the real world won't catch up with them, aren't they?
Actually no, less than 1% said that having a good social life was their main reason for choosing to go to uni, whereas 22% are going to uni to stretch themselves intellectually.
Wow, so young people are making serious, important decisions about their lives based on logic and sense. Stop the press!
Now a few myths have been busted, what else are these young boffins thinking about when deciding to go to uni?
26% considered taking a gap year to do work experience or an internship and a further 6% said personal development was the main reason for choosing uni.
So it's officially time to stop the stereotyping of students - studying is a serious business and graduates will, afterall, be our future policy makers and captains of industry.
