Jacket Envy: The Search For A Chic Tuxedo Jacket

RE: BUZZFEED APPLICATION Many fashion forward ladies, from Taylor Swift to Tilda Swinton, are wearing suits on the red carpet these days. I've gotten jacket envy, so I set out to find a tuxedo jacket that is sharp and stylish.

I love juxtapositions in fashion, so I think a smart suit with stilettos is fabulous. "Pantsuits" sound blah, but women can look sharp and feminine in a well done suit like Emma Watson's Saint Laurent suit.

Janelle Monáe has rocked so many amazing suits it was hard to pick one. Love this tuxedo from her (aptly titled) Q.U.E.E.N. video!

Susan Sarandon caused quite a stir by wearing this Max Mara suit and bra (a bralette, before bralettes were a thing!) at the SAG awards. Kicking ass and taking names!

I started at my local vintage shop, Ragg Mopp. First I tried on a men's tuxedo jacket that was WAY too big.

Next was a women's suit jacket, which was cute but small. This was the closest it would come to buttoning, so the search continues!

Third was another men's jacket, and Holy Shoulder Pads, Batman! At least this one buttoned, and could be cute with some tailoring, but I decided to keep searching.

I went to Nordstrom and found this women's suit jacket that was cute but small. Total T-Rex arms (when the jacket is so small that you can only move your arms like a T-Rex)!

I tried on a larger size of the same jacket and finally! A women's jacket that I can button! But...I didn't really like how it looked. Le sigh.

I said I love juxtapositions in fashion, right? I brought my favorite bralette, and this is a look I like! But the jacket would need an extra button (where I'm holding it closed), and at $425 it's pricey for a "project" item.
