10 Things I'm Learning From My Dating Experiment

Observations from a dating experiment, Post-Modern Matchmaker, in which my friends and family find guys for me to date.

1. It's hard to change who you're attracted to.

I've often joked about my terrible taste in men, so I asked my friends and family to set me up with different types of guys than I usually date.

2. People get really excited about matchmaking!

I pick a Matchmaker for the week, and they use an OkCupid account to set me up with guys. They pick 3 guys, then I plan dates with the Bachelors. My mom was the first Matchmaker and she even suggested date activities.

3. Online dating can be quite strange...

4. There are a lot of flakey people!

At least one guy per week has bailed after showing interest in being part of the experiment.

6. You're a human being, even on a first date. And that's ok.

When I'm really tired, hungry, and dehydrated, it's probably (past) time to end the date. I went on a date and kind of turned into a zombie... (see Date #1: Week 1 Bachelor #1).

7. I like guys with a compatible sense of humor, but...

9. Some OkCupid messages make me really mad.

10. It's really nice to have support from your family and friends!

I'm usually very private about my love life and it's been interesting to share my dating ups and downs with my family, friends, friends' families, and Facebook friends who I haven't talked to in 10 years.
