It was exactly 5 years ago that Grant and I "tied the knot" and made a commitment to explore the future together. Many of you may not remember, but back in those prehistoric days folks like us could only get married legally in a handful of states and Vermont seemed a bit far and Iowa… well, Iowa just wasn't for us. We decided that, given the choices, it was more about being with our family and friends than it was about making it legal. We decided that, like all marriages, it wasn't a piece of paper that defined what we had and who we were... It was ONLY us that defined "us." So we made the decision to get hitched in a little donut shop in Portland, Oregon instead. It was a brilliant day and every year after has been even better. Well now, times have changed and they'll let the likes of us get married anywhere and we're going to make what has always been official a little bit more official today on our 5th year anniversary in our new home state of Montucky!!! I want to thank our families who have always supported us and whole heartedly welcomed us into each other's families. I want to let all of our friends know how much we appreciate being in your lives! I also want to thank the county clerk for not Kim Davising us!And to Grant, I truly am the luckiest man in the whole wide world and no matter what controversy there might be going on about boys loving boys, I'm so grateful you chose to love this one!!!

If all else fails, hopefully there will be a kid walking by with a tuba.
