I had visited the site accidentally two years after the attack happened. I was at a job interview a block away and found myself walking right past it. I stopped and it felt like I was punched in the stomach. They were still doing work there at the time. But what killed me most, were all the tourists taking family vacation photos with the decimated area as the back drop. I knew right then and there that anything but a park or memorial at the site would be beyond tacky.
