Over a decade later, these feature-length capers would pan out much differently.

    Road Trip (2000)

Why It Doesn't Work Anymore: Instead of mailing a tape, Josh uploads his video to YouTube. A two day road trip across America is replaced by five minutes of Josh frantically trying to delete the video before anyone sees it.

    Never Been Kissed (1999)

Why It Doesn't Work Anymore: Due to the fact that no one buys newspapers anymore, there's no room in The Chicago Sun Times' budget for undercover operations. Instead, Josie's "research" consists of her monitoring the Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and Instagram feeds of the local high-school students while sobbing over her misspent youth. She never leaves the computer. She never gets kissed.

    Cruel Intentions (1999)

Why It Doesn't Work Anymore: While using StumbleUpon, someone finds Sebastian's blog, which he has been using as his diary. The link spreads among their peers, revealing the pair's sordid relationship to the world. They become the subjects of incest themed internet memes as well as social pariahs/online celebrities.

    Euro Trip (2004)

Why It Doesn't Work Anymore: Scott and Mieke are Facebook friends and there is no confusion about her gender. Unless, of course, she's Catfishing him, but that's a whole other movie.

(There were actually a few social networks active in 2004, so it's plausible that this storyline didn't even work when the movie came out)

    American Pie (1999)

Why It Doesn't Work Anymore: Because no one wants to see a movie called 'American Flesh Light'.
