    A French lawmaker was fined Wednesday after taunting a female colleague by clucking like a chicken while she made a speech in the National Assembly Tuesday night.

    Green Party MP Veronique Massonneau was trying to present an amendment during a parliamentary session when a lawmaker from the conservative UMP Party started clucking. In France, chicken is a derogatory term for women.

    Lawmaker Veronique Massonneau of France’s Green Party snapped: “That’s enough. Stop that. I’m not a hen.”

    The incident was widely criticized for being sexist and has reignited a debate about sexism in French politics.

    According to The Associated Press, chicken-clucker Philippe Le Ray "will be fined a quarter of his monthly salary, or about 1,300 Euros ($1,700)."

    The incident has spurred accusations of sexism in French politics. And it's not the first time something like this has happened.

    Last year, lawmakers made hissing sounds at a female cabinet minister apparently because she was wearing a dress.
