Love me or hate me, just PLEASE don't misunderstand me. "Leila" means "born at night" and has the tendency to make people play air guitar and belt out "...got me on my knees!....ha ha... get it? get it?!" yes, very cute. the song "Layla" was actually written for a woman named Pattie, so, ok. i love the song, but whenever i hear that piano interlude, i can't help but think, "when they found carbone in the meat truck, he was so frozen it took them three days to thaw him out for the autopsy". great movie. My favorite movie though, is Saturday Night Fever. I love the 1970s. I should be there right now. I also love the sound polaroid cameras make and the word 'cameraderie'. Music is life. Religion is a joke. I love music more than normal people do. Music is a time machine. I love it all. Classic rock and disco and jazz and classical and new wave and techno and hard rock and soft rock and all the rock in between. Crackling 20s music and dreamy 30s music. 40s big band and 50s doo-wop. I love 70s AM radio music. Especially during thunderstorms when you can hear the lightning in the radio. I love it all. Except country. Country is NOT music. There are sesame street songs with more complex melodies and creative lyrics than country songs. I love the sound of electric guitars alone in a big room, really long good hard drum solos, audiences of thousands singing together at concerts, steel drums on a beach at sunset, a needle on an old record, cassette players closing and cds shuffling and good hard bass, loud rock and roll with the windows down in the car. "Do You Feel Like We Do" is a hallucinogenic. That first guitar chord in "The Rain Song" is the sound that your eyelashes make when you close your eyes for a kiss. And if you play "Magic Man" really loud in your car you can travel back in time. My favorite band is The Doors. Jim Morrison said "The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are". I'm optimistic and paranoid and impatient. I want to drive cross country alone and live in Norway. I panic every New Years Eve because life is so fleeting and I worry every day if I will ever express the greatness within me. Life is terribly unfair but also beautiful and wonderful and extraordinary and terrifying. I absolutely adore myself and I adore my life on this crazy planet.
