Originally from Asia, Africa, and the Pacific Islands, gardenias are related to the coffee family. Although they flower during the day, their scent becomes stronger as night approaches to attract moths and other nocturnal insects. Their fruit can also produce a natural yellow dye for fabrics and food!

These low-maintenance flowers are a part of the Morning Glory family and can be grown in pots. They open rapidly at dusk and close in the morning, attracting nocturnal insects and bats. According to Aztec mythology, moonflowers are associated with Xochiquetzal, the goddess of love and beauty.

Aka the Four 'O Clock flower, these flowers bloom in the late afternoon. Originally cultivated by the Aztecs for ornamental and medicinal purposes, they can change color depending on the bush's age. Sometimes, multiple colors are found on the same bush!

Night Phlox has traditionally been used for medicinal purposes. Native to South Africa, these delicate flowers start blooming at dusk. Their fragrant scent is similar to a mixture of vanilla, honey, and almond, which attracts beneficial insects like moths and butterflies!

Native to Texas, Arizona, and northern Mexico, this elegant cactus flower blooms only once a year at night. Unlike many plants, all of the flowers bloom at the same time. The queen of the night can be found at elevations ranging from 2000 to 5000 feet and also bears an edible fruit that animals (and humans!) enjoy.
