McDonald's Canada Just Changed Their Nut Policy And Parents Are Mad

It was once a safe place to eat for people with allergies.

First, the good news: McDonald's Canada is adding a Skor McFlurry to its menu, which sounds delicious.

But, bad news: It turns out that's a really bad thing for anyone with peanut or tree nut allergies.

And now people are pretty pissed off.

@mcdonalds your menu now containing nuts has just ruined our safe place to eat! #nohappymeal #McDonalds #notnutfree #yourpolicysucks

For parents of kids with deadly nut allergies, McDonald's had been a safe place to bring their family to eat.

Oh @McDonalds Canada - What's this about nuts. Got two boys who love Happy Meals and also have lethal nut allergies. Ease my mind please.

It also means having yet another thing to worry about when their kids are out of their sight.

@McDonalds @McDonaldsCanada adding nuts alienates children with nut allergies. Now my kid can't go with their friends.

Not to mention adults with nut allergies.

McDonalds Canada is adding nuts to their menu - I have peanut allergy and they used to be my safe option @McD_Canada https://t.co/aLoRRQtaTB

The McDonald's announcement also said they "have a long history of being sensitive to the needs of our guests with food allergies." But people are wondering how that can be true given the changes.

@McD_Canada how can you say you have a focus on allergens when you add #nuts to your menu? That's just rude. #allergy #nuts #mcdonalds

Many people on social media have already said they'll stop going to McDonald's because it's just not worth the risk.

@McDonalds with the decision to serve nuts, you have now lost my entire family. My daughter has anaphylaxis reactions. I just cant risk it.

And considering how common and severe nut allergies are, it seems they stand to lose a lot of customers.

@McD_Canada if the McFlurry with nuts stays, my family and tens of thousands like us are out. Permanently.

Although McDonald's Canada has made no mention of the nut issue on their social media accounts, their mentions and comments are now flooded with angry messages.

McDonald's has not replied to the upset customers directly, but said in their announcement information about the changes would would be shared "in restaurant, at the drive-thru, on our website and through our mobile app."

mcdonalds adding nuts to their menu is the STUPIDEST thing i've ever heard.
