McDonald's Canada Just Changed Their Nut Policy And Parents Are Mad

    It was once a safe place to eat for people with allergies.

    First, the good news: McDonald's Canada is adding a Skor McFlurry to its menu, which sounds delicious.

    But, bad news: It turns out that's a really bad thing for anyone with peanut or tree nut allergies.

    In a note on its website, McDonald's Canada announced the new McFlurry would break their tradition of keeping all nuts individually packaged.

    "The new SKOR McFlurry (available Jan 17, 2017) is the first product that will contain non-packaged peanuts or tree nuts," it said.

    "As a result, all products available at our restaurants may contain or come into contact with peanuts, tree nuts or other allergens. That means the possibility exists for cross-contact between nuts and other menu items."

    And now people are pretty pissed off.

    For parents of kids with deadly nut allergies, McDonald's had been a safe place to bring their family to eat.

    The McDonald's announcement also said they "have a long history of being sensitive to the needs of our guests with food allergies." But people are wondering how that can be true given the changes.

    Many people on social media have already said they'll stop going to McDonald's because it's just not worth the risk.

    Although McDonald's Canada has made no mention of the nut issue on their social media accounts, their mentions and comments are now flooded with angry messages.

    McDonald's has not replied to the upset customers directly, but said in their announcement information about the changes would would be shared "in restaurant, at the drive-thru, on our website and through our mobile app."
