10 Thoughts Everyone Goes Through While Commuting

Whether you commute a far way or a short distance, everyone has the same thought processes. I'm going to take you through when you board to when you get to work.

1. Do I Get A Free Newspaper

Everyone's first conundrum is if you get a free newspaper. However you then know you have the responsibility to keep the newspaper for your whole commute. Are you a skimmer or do you read the entire newspaper? If you're lucky you could get a newspaper someone has abandoned on the tube.

2. "No one better be in my seat or I'm going to flip my shit."

No matter where you live, everyone has a preferred seat and if you don't get that seat, well it can ruin your whole day in seconds. You have no choice but to sit next to the offender and make them aware that they have made the wrong decision. You've never seen this person before, and your usual commuters are all looking at you in shock.

You then sit next to them and make sure that they have the worst journey to London - put your music to full volume, type loudly on your work laptop, accidentally kick them.

3. "Please don't be a guard that likes his own voice"

No matter who you are, no one wants to hear any voice at 6:40 in the morning. In most trains there are automated announcements, which most people can deal with. However, some guards will ensure that you have the worst journey possible by making announcements, loudly and often. "GOOD MORNING" - nothing good about the morning time - "THIS TRAIN IS FOR LIVERPOOL STREET CALLING AT STRATFORD AND LIVERPOOL STREET. MAKE SURE THAT..."

By this point you just want to open the door nearest to you and jump on the tracks. Instead of that, you just huff and share a look with the person infront of you.

4. "Please don't sit next to me... shit"

"We are now approaching, Arundel"

"Okay, here we go." *looks at doors to see who's getting on*

"Please don't sit next to me we have 14 more stops to go" *looks at people to ensure they don't sit next to me*

"That's it keep walking"

*Someone sit's next to me*

5. This is the worst journey ever, I didn't get a paper, someone is in my seat, I have someone sitting next to me. "TICKETS PLEASE"

For non commuters, this is an everyday thing. The guard will come and check your tickets.

Now you're in a mad dash trying to find your ticket wallet. You realise that it is in your bag, which is in the overhead luggage rack. For fuck's sake.

You've gotten your tickets out, the guard is approaching like a shark.

You know your ticket is fine, but there's always the paranoia that something is wrong with your ticket.

"Thanks!"

Phew, your ticket is fine like every single time.

6. "Oooo the Great British Bake Off"

Turns out the person sitting next to you isn't as bad as you thought because they've opened up their iPad and BAM! You see Mel and Sue and you're sneakily glued to their screen.

7. I hope this train isn't delayed

You look out the window at the next station. On the board you see an 'on-time' next to your train. You look in shock!

'Maybe this day isn't so bad.'

You then wonder why you've been waiting at this station for ages. *ding dong* "Ladies and gents we are now waiting here at Gatwick Airport just waiting at a red signal we should be on the move shortly"

Uh oh, you poise yourself and get the pre-copied text to your boss saying you're going to be late, again.

8. This service is awfully crowded

As you get closer and closer to the city, the train gets more and more packed. Suddenly you're playing a game of Dodge the Dong. Actual picture of East Croydon at rush hour.

9. "CAN YOU MOVE DOWN PLEASE"

It's the last stop before the end. The sardine special cannot fit anyone else on, but out of the blue you hear a passive aggressive voice from the platform. "Can you move down?" Now - you're sitting down so it's not your responsibility, but you think to yourself, 'There's no more room, just wait 3 minutes for the next one.' You know this impatient prick is coming in-between you and the last stop. Luckily everyone is as stubborn as you are, and no one moves down. The doors close on the idiot as he watches the train speed up without him.

10. "We are now approaching London Paddington, our final destination"

The end of the line. You're not impatient so you wait like a normal human being, but as soon as that announcement comes on, everyone around you starts acting like animals, trying to get their stuff on, I've mastered the art of putting my blazer on sitting down. Is this the end of your commute or so you have to face more trains?
