The First Flat-Packed Wood Bike You Assemble Yourself!

The Sandwichbike is made of two wooden panels with less than 50 parts, it’s delivered via post in a flat cardboard box to be assembled at home with a few basic tools. An allen wrench, some patience and Voila! A funky bike.

Designed by Dutch Industrial designer Basten Leijh, the Sandwich bike is now going into production with prices starting at 799 euros.

Made of two wooden panels, this bicycle was inspired by the concept of flat packing and home assembly and was presented at the 2013 Salone del Mobile.

The bike actually ships in the mail worldwide.

Instead of a welded frame, the vehicle is engineered as a “sandwich” of two weather coated frames of layered plywood. Bonded together by “smart cylinders”, the frames and components become a durable and attractive piece of technology.

Less than 50 parts, the entire bike, pieces and tools come packaged nicely in one box.
