The Utah Department of Public Safety has had, to put it mildly, a pretty weird week. Last Monday, they revealed the discovery of a random metal monolith in the middle of Red Rock Country.
No one has any idea where this thing came from — at all. Utah DPS employees even scoured the structure for clues, but they could find "no obvious indication of who might have put the monolith there."
What's even weirder: apparently, it's been there for years. The whole thing is very reminiscent of the tall monolith featured in Stanley Kubrick's classic sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
We may never know where the monolith came from, and now we don't know where it is, either. That's right, a week after it was discovered, the monolith. has. disappeared.
In a Facebook post, Utah's Bureau of Land Management confirmed that "a person or group removed [the monolith] on the evening of [Nov.] 27." They said an "unknown party" took it from its spot — so, they have no idea who removed it, either.
So who took it? Who put it there? Is it gone forever? Where...am I?
Maybe it was an art installation, maybe it was a prank, who knows? I, personally, have a theory myself...
