Indeed, when Ryan's look for the hotly anticipated film dropped last month, it caused quite a stir — and in a recent appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, he revealed how he felt about all the commotion.
“I was surprised how, you know, some people were clutching their pearls at my Ken as though they ever thought about Ken for a second before this," he observed.
“They never played with Ken," he went on to joke. "Nobody plays with Ken, man. Did you play with Ken?”
“He’s an accessory. And not even one of the cool ones.”
Ryan also explained how director Greta Gerwig convinced him to take the role on.
He says that, after Greta sent him the script, he thought it was the "best" he'd ever read — and then he made a surprising discovery in his backyard.
“I walk out in the back yard and you know where I find Ken? Face down in the mud next to a squished lemon,” he revealed.
“I texted it to Greta and I said, ‘I shall be your Ken. For his story must be told.’”
