A Week After They Spoke Out Against A "Near Catastrophic" NYC Paparazzi Car Chase, Meghan Markle And Prince Harry's Rep Responded To Claims They Exaggerated

Meghan and Harry are hitting back against claims that their previous statement shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Last week, news broke that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were involved in a two-hour car chase with paparazzi in New York City.

At the time, a spokesperson for Meghan and Harry claimed that the chase "resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and two NYPD officers.”

The spokesperson also referred to the incident as "near catastrophic" and referred to the pursuers as "a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi.”

Some, including NYC mayor Eric Adams, drew parallels to the 1997 death of Harry's mother, Princess Diana, after being chased by paparazzi.

“I don’t think there’s many of us who don’t recall how his mom died,” Mayor Adams said, “and it would be horrific to lose an innocent bystander during a chase like this and for something to have happened to them as well. I think that was a bit reckless and irresponsible.”

Others have apparently claimed that Meghan and Harry exaggerated how serious the chase actually was — and now the couple is responding to those claims.

“Respectfully, considering the Duke’s family history, one would have to think nothing of the couple or anybody associated with them to believe this was any sort of P.R. stunt," Meghan and Harry's spokesperson, Ashley Hansen, told the New York Times.
