Carrie Underwood is, of course, also a queen in the American Idol kingdom, having won the show's fourth season.
So apparently there have been rumors for years that Kelly and Carrie have been in some sort of feud because of their respective Idol statuses.
During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Kelly found herself addressing those rumors — but the topic came about in quite an awkward way.
Here's what went down: A caller started to ask Kelly a question about Carrie — and Kelly immediately responded, "I think I know where you're going with this."
Kelly claimed, “People always pit us together, and we don’t even know each other well enough to be pitted together. Literally, we’ve run into each other a handful of times. There’s no beef between us.”
Kelly then allowed the caller to finish asking their question — which, as it turns out, was actually about Kelly's interview with Carrie on her daytime talk show back in 2021.
After laughing off her own rush to judgment, Kelly said that having Carrie on the show was "awesome" and explained why she assumed the caller was going to ask about their rumored feud.
“Everybody always asks me the ‘pitted against each other’ question,” she explained. “The thing that was cool about [Carrie's appearance] is that everybody always pits us against each other. They don’t do that with dudes.”
