10 UK Music Festivals You Might Not Have Heard Of

Festiival season is around the corner and it isn't all about Glastonbury and Reading Festival. With a whole host of amazing events around the country we pick our top 10 that you should be discovering this year!

1. Victorious Festival (28 & 29 August)

Down on Southsea Seafront in Portsmouth, this years Victorious Festival has got the likes of The Flaming Lips, Basement Jaxx, Tinie Tempah, Texas and more playing for just £18. £18/ticket for all that. Apparently you get into the seafront attractions and Aquarium with your ticket too!

2. Y Not Festival (31 July - 2 August)

Based in Derbyshire, Y Not Festival is the perfect blend of stuff you know and the best of the up and coming bands. Think Snoop Dogg and Primal Scream with everything in between. A cosy little festival site!

3. Truck Festival (17 - 18 July)

Oxfordshire's Truck Festival likes its new music, but not in a wanky way. Acts like The Foals and The XX have been showcased at the festival over the years, but this year you can expect all that new stuff alongside The Charlatans, Saint Raymond, Basement Jaxx and Darwin Deez as well.

4. Sound City (22 - 24 May)

At Liverpool Docklands, Sound City, looks amazing this year. The Flaming Lips, Belle and Sebastian, Gaz Coombes and more will be rocking the north west at the festival which once showcased little known acts that went on to become Mumford & Sons, Jake Bugg and Florence & The Machine.

5. Handmade Festival (1 - 3 May)

Because Leicester needs something to shout about other than just Richard III. Handmade Festival is all about new bands, but good new bands, bands you'll be glad you made the trip to the Midlands to see. Slaves will be there, along with Future of the Left and Bo Ningen. It's based right near the city centre too and it's only £35 for the whole weekend.

6. OnBlackheath (12 - 13 September)

Returning for its second year, OnBlackheath is unsurprisingly in Blackheath in London. A great, if not slightly depressing, lineup this year sees Elbow and The Manic Street Preachers joined by Madness, Kelis and even Dynamo spinning some magic. Tickets are £89 for the weekend.

7. Forgotten Fields (7 - 8 August)

If you've gone through this list and thought yeh know it, know it, know it, then this might be the one you don't! This is the very first year for Forgotten Fields, which is the new event from the crew behind Kendal Calling. It's over in Tunbridge Wells and will this year welcome Basement Jaxx (Yes, they're playing everywhere), British Sea Power, De La Soul, Levellers, DJ Yoda and much more in their eclectic lineup.

8. Cambridge Folk Festival (30 July - 2 August)

A folk festival? Seriously? I know what you're thinking. But Cambridge Folk Festival has something different to offer. Check the lineup and you'll see the likes of Frank Turner, The Proclaimers and Stornoway.

9. Bingley Music Live (4 - 6 September)

Back up north for Bingley Music Live (it's near Bradford). A fantastic throwback lineup of Ash, Cast, James and Embrace will be joined by Ella Eyre, Peter Hook and the Light and Labrinth. Even better, you'll get change from £50 for a weekend ticket.

10. Tramlines (24 - 26 July)

Taking place in various venues and open spaces in Sheffield, Tramlines is now in its 7th year. Giles Petersen and Wu-Tang Clan have recently been announced alongside The Charlatans, Ghostpoet, Dutch Uncles and Billy Bragg. Tickets are only £30 and unlike many festivals the music runs for pretty much 24 hours/day, so there's plenty of time to savour the diverse lineup!
