After leadership tensions in the Liberal party came to a head today, it emerged on Twitter that the domain libspill.com re-routes to Malcolm Turnbull’s website.
The culprit? Not Turnbull himself, as some on Twitter hypothesised – but Harry Holbrook (@hazmatticus_), a student at the University of NSW.
Holbrook told BuzzFeed News he bought the domain a few months ago for 99 cents, but only redirected it to Turnbull's site today.
"I just thought the site had potential, especially with the leadership issues in the Liberal Party," he said.
"Today when I heard that Turnbull called a spill, I decided to redirect it to his site. I knew the East Coast Twitterati would enjoy it."
"People thought Turnbull had been planning a spill for a while, so I thought, why not play on that rumour?"
Well played, Holbrook. Well played.
