Benji Kuriakose took the stage on Season 3 of 'The Voice' and was taken in by Team Adam after the blind audition. Unfortunately, his killer scream didn't make it to the end (to the dismay of many!). His band 'Built to be Broken' comprised of himself and his two best friends had already written music prior to the show and were hoping for accelerated growth following Benji's time in the spotlight. Things didn't work out as well as they had hoped and the band is currently on hiatus. Singer Benji shares his story as well as a song he recently wrote about the pain of being wrongly rejected because of his race rather than his skill.

He posted this in his description of his lyric video on Youtube:

This is the lyric video for "Different", the first track off of my new project.

2015 was rough for me. Built to be Broken, the band I was in for years, went on hiatus, and I really didn't understand out how much that affected me until the last couple of weeks. I realized that the death of a dream is something you have to work through - not ignore.

I haven't shared this story publicly before, but one of the toughest things we struggled with as a band, was that after I was on The Voice, the band got multiple opportunities with labels and others...who ultimately all said to our management that they weren't sure if three Indian guys in a band would "sell". Needless to say, that really hurt - acid pouring into wounds hurt. This song comes from that place. Racism, hurt, pain, frustration, the dying gasps of a dream - being wrongfully denied. Hopefully it connects with you.

If it does - the best is yet to come.

    Thanks for listening.

    Benji
