What We Do In The Shadows Is Getting A Sequel: What We Know About We're Wolves

After two long years of waiting, director/actor Taika Waititi teases at a sequel.

    The Good News:

In 2014 the hilarious and superb vampire mockumentary What We Do In the Shadows was unleashed upon movie viewers. While it has already gained cult status, the movie continues to gain followers from all around the world. Recently, director/actor Taika Waititi announced that We're Wolves, the much anticipated sequel, will soon be in development.

    Revisiting the Original:

What We Do in the Shadows follows four vampires and the challenges they face as flat mates. Nick (Cori Gonzalez-Macuer), a newbie vampire, brings his human friend Stu (Stuart Rutherford) into the fold, and the vampires fall madly in bro-love with him.

Throughout the film, the vampires encounter a pack of werewolves, led by the Anton (Rhys Darby), with typical disdain for the lycanthropes. By the end, it appears that poor Stu has become victim to a full moon attack, only to appear again reborn, this time as a werewolf himself. This brings the two camps, vampires and werewolves, together as friends and seemingly wraps up the film nicely.

    We're Wolves:

After finishing What We Do In the Shadows, directors Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement discussed making a follow up, What We Do In the Moonlight, but the hopes of many fans were dashed when the duo decided that filming would be too challenging. The original film took a collective seven years to finish, and for that, one can't blame them.

The newly announced sequel, We're Wolves (a play on werewolves, of course) will follow the werewolf pack of the film. While there isn't any news yet on returning cast, Waititi has indicated that he and Clement are set to develop the story and bring back Stu (Rutherford) and Anton (Darby)!

    What we know so far:

The film will feature a battle over control of the pack between Stu and Anton. But who would make a better leader? The calm and lovable Stu or the experienced alpha Anton?

    Stu (Stuart Rutherford):

Quiet and reserved, he makes friends easily through his helpful nature. While no one ever seems to quite understand what his job is, it's definitely has something to do with computers. By the end of the film, he's successfully able to end the animosity between his vampire friends and his new pack. However, Stu may not have the domineering personality needed for being alpha (or maybe that's a good thing).

    Anton (Rhys Darby):

A loud and dominant alpha, Anton exercises a heavy amount of control over his pack throughout the film. Anton has experience. He knows when to pick a fight and when to walk away, and what sort of pants to wear on transformation night (hint: it's track pants). While all of these traits culminate into good leader qualities, perhaps the pack is tired of his bossy nature and are looking for a more democratic, or at least less strict, leader.
