Take A Look Inside Margaret Atwood's First Graphic Novel

    It's a bird, it's a plane...it's Angel Catbird!

Last December, the literary world collectively geeked out when we heard the news that *the* Margaret Atwood is writing a YA graphic novel, Angel Catbird.

And now for the first time, BuzzFeed has an exclusive sneak peek inside the Dark Horse comic book.

Angel Catbird is illustrated by Johnnie Christmas.

According to a press release, Atwood says the story is about "a superhero who is part cat, part bird."

The graphic novel is also a part of two Nature Canada initiatives, Keep Cats Safe and Save Bird Lives, to help raise awareness about animal rights and protect wildlife.

"I grew up in the 1940s drawing comics, and I've continued: I even drew a strip in the 1970s. So what better way to explore cat/bird interactions and the welfare of both than through a flying catbird superhero?" Margaret Atwood told BuzzFeed over email.

"I'm thrilled to be working with Johnnie Christmas, who can draw way better than I can!"

“This project has been a fun mix of advocacy, humor, and adventure," Johnnie Christmas also told BuzzFeed over email. "Margaret Atwood is a fountain of ideas, it’s been an absolute blast working with her. And our tale of 'half-cats' gets a fine boost from the wonderful Tamra Bonvillain. Her vibrant colors help bring the world of Angel Catbird to life.”

Angel Catbird goes on sale in bookstores and comic shops on September 6, 2016.
