This year's Met Gala theme, "In honor of Karl," is considered controversial because, during his lifetime, designer Karl Lagerfeld made comments that were anti-fat, anti-Islamic, and critical of women's bodies.
He also said he was "fed up" with the #MeToo movement, sent flowers to an accused rapist, and defended a stylist who was accused of sexual assault. Additionally, he dressed a model in both yellowface and blackface.
So, the Met Gala's decision to honor the designer didn't sit well with a lot of people. Still, a lot of celebs attended, but several of them subtly shaded Lagerfeld through their outfit choices.
As you may have noticed, most attendees wore white or black to this year's Met Gala, but some wore another eye-catching color that Lagerfeld wouldn't have approved of. According to fashion writer Patrick Mauriès's book The World According to Karl, he once said, "Think pink. But don't wear it."
