This Woman Watered A Fake Plant For Two Years Thinking It Was Real And The Story Is Hilarious

"I put so much love into this plant! I washed its leaves."

Caelie Wilkes is a Northern California mom who was gifted a succulent two years ago after killing a previous one she owned.

Caelie never questioned if the plant was real or not — she just wanted to take good care of her new succulent. She told BuzzFeed, "I watered it once a week. I kept it in my kitchen window."

And Caelie said she became really protective of her perfect plant. "If someone else tried to water my succulent, I would get so defensive because I just wanted to keep good care of it on my own," she added.

But last week, Caelie decided to move the succulent into a cute vase she found. As she was removing it from the container it was first purchased in, she discovered it was fake. The succulent was sitting on plastic foam with sand glued to the top. "I was in shock. I laughed and I cried. I couldn’t believe it," she said.

"Succulents don’t require a ton of water, so I never noticed water puddling up," Caelie explained, adding that she loved the plant so much she would clean its leaves.

Caelie then decided to share her two-year mishap on Facebook and people quickly started sharing the incident.

The post currently has over 6,000 shares because pretty much everyone in the comments could relate.

And even though this succulent was fake, Caelie said she has a lot of REAL plants that are all thriving in her care! Thanks, Caelie, for the laughs and we hope you cherish your fake succulent forever!
