We Tried Popular Laundry Hacks And Here Is What Happened

There's nothing like a freezer full of jeans and freezie pops.

Hi, I'm Krista, and this is my trusty sidekick (aka my son) Evan. Sometimes we lie in a pile of clean laundry, throw it in the air, and pretend it's money.

The idea here is that the cold temperatures kill bacteria, thus making all odors disappear. The result: clean jeans that last longer and don't fade in the wash.

If there are any stains, spot treat them first. Then get a ziplock bag and place the jeans inside. Next, put the jeans in the freezer for at least 30 minutes.

Evan said they smelled like "nothing," so I assume all germs were killed? I have no idea, but what I do know is the dryer always shrinks my jeans and I end up jumping up and down every morning trying to squeeze into them, so I dig this hack for that reason (after the initial weird, stiff feeling wears off).

First rinse the stain with warm water, then apply a generous amount of peroxide to the stain and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. After that, gently rub the stain to work in the peroxide before throwing it in the washing machine.

It works, people! I had no idea. This is a simple, inexpensive hack that I will be using again.

Place clothing in a bowl of warm water and add about a tablespoon of conditioner. Let sit for 30 minutes, then pull out, stretch, and air-dry.

This one worked, but I am not 100% sold. While the pants did stretch longer, you will probably have to repeat the stretching process in the future and that requires extra work, so I am out. #lazy

Mix Dawn dish soap with a splash of hydrogen peroxide, rub it into the stain, and let it sit about 20 minutes. Then throw it in the washing machine.

This was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I was shocked when I pulled it out of the wash. Another inexpensive way to remove stains.✔️

I picked a shirt Evan had outgrown, because I hate the thought of ruining a perfectly good shirt. Evan did the honors with a greasy AF hot dog (ew).

Dab the grease stain with a paper towel, then cover it completely with baby powder. Wait 15 minutes, then brush off the powder.

What a mess. When I saw it wasn't working, I tried to scratch the nasty, sticky baby powder off and it was so gross. This does not work, and even if it did, I would not want to mess with baby powder being everywhere.

We turned to our trusty hot dogs once again for grease aplenty.

Rub the Dawn dish soap into the stain, let it sit a few minutes, and throw it in the wash.

It works, yay! This is a great way to utilize what is already in your house instead of buying a cleaner. And just a heads-up: I I read that the generic brand of dish soap doesn't work (but didn't try it).

Add one cup of baking soda directly in the wash (not in the detergent dispenser) for brighter whites.

At first I thought this was the lighting, but I promise you, they took on a yellow hue when I took them out. NOT WHITE AT ALL. TOTAL FAIL. 😢

We went to work writing on another old shirt.

Use a good amount of hand sanitizer mixed with hairspray and put it directly on the ink stains, wait about 10 minutes, then toss it into the washing machine.

NOPE. I don't get it. The ink barely even faded. How is this a hack? It doesn't work.

Wash towels with hot water and one cup of vinegar (no detergent or softener). Then wash the towels again, this time with hot water and half a cup of baking soda (no detergent or softener).

IT WORKS. And I will be honest, I don't even know if I used the right kind of vinegar. It may have just been in my head, but I still think they felt softer when they came out, hence my face.

Well, we did it. We debunked some of the most popular laundry hacks, and the most important thing we learned is that baby powder is for babies, not laundry.
