This Man Left His Future Pregnant Sister-In-Law Homeless Because She Abandoned His Cat On The Streets — His Fiancé Thinks He's In The Wrong So We Need To Shed Some Light On This Situation

"Don't let her use her pregnancy as an excuse for behaving so terribly." Reddit is backing this man's decision to kick his pregnant sister-in-law out of his home for her unacceptable behavior.

If you didn't know, the "Am I the Asshole?" thread on Reddit gives us all the juiciest dilemmas people are having so we strangers can step in as the "third party" and offer insights about the situation. Particularly our thoughts on whether or not the original poster (OP) is an asshole.

Today we are talking about a 27-year-old man (our OP) who has beef with his future sister-in-law and now his fiancé as well. The OP has a cat named Billy who he dearly loves. "He's my best friend and is very funny and adorable. He always makes me laugh and comforts me when I need him," the OP says of his cat. ADORBS.🥰😽

The OP's future sister-in-law — who is currently pregnant — started living with him and his 26-year-old fiancé after her boyfriend kicked her out. The OP pays for everything right now because his fiancé can't find a job, and her sister doesn't work.

This already sounds like a disaster waiting to happen...

Anyway, the future SIL doesn't like Billy the cat. "She'd yell at him to get out whenever he's in the kitchen or the living room. She sprayed him with water whenever she wanted him out and threw his food away. ... My fiancé said her sister never had a cat so she doesn't know how to treat them which is nonsense since animals just want to be left alone. My fiancé's sister seemed to be doing it deliberately," explained the OP.

Then, one day after work, the OP came home, and Billy was nowhere to be found. "I went to look for him after my fiancé's sister said he left in the morning. My neighbor then brought him to me saying he saw my fiancé's sister drop him off near an auto repair shop a bit far from my home. I was livid. Billy was so scared he couldn't even eat. I confronted her, and she lied about not going anywhere and asked my fiancé to back her up, but my fiancé refused."

    A couple arguing

The future SIL eventually admitted that she abandoned the cat but kept excusing what she did by saying she was worried for her baby since cats aren't supposed to be around pregnant people. (This is not based in fact, btw, from what I can tell. Pregnant people are supposed to avoid scooping kitty litter, but I could find no mention of the dangers of pregnant people just being in the presence of cats.)

"I blew up at her and told her to leave. My fiancé said that's her sister and her niece/nephew and I should be more graceful. I argued with her about what Billy felt after what her sister did, but my fiancé called me unsupportive and said that I was overreacting, saying there's no harm in taking Billy to stay with a friend since her sister clearly is scared of him," he said in the thread.

Now, the OP doesn't know how to feel. So, he opened the floor to the people of Reddit...

Thankfully, Reddit had his back. We all know he isn't the asshole, and it's wild to believe people would be this mean to animals — and have a loved one defend the behavior!

After telling the OP he's not an asshole, u/yay_darkness said, "Ditch your fiancé, too. You're paying for her and her sister to both mistreat your cat. Seems like the sister isn't getting shit from your fiancé about abusing your cat. You're not their financial piggy bank, and you get to have a pet."

    "Bye Bye"

"The cat is the only loyal one in this whole post. The fiancé can follow her sister since she’s so worried about her. Give the neighbor a case of beer or steak! Let him know Reddit loves him and the kitty," said u/StaceysMomPlus2more.

U/christina0001 urged the OP to reconsider his soon-to-be marriage because this behavior is a big red flag. "Kick her out, and frankly, I would think twice about marrying anyone that could defend that kind of behavior."

The fact that the women were using pregnancy as an excuse for the behavior is also completely ridiculous, says Reddit. "Don't let her use her pregnancy as an excuse for behaving so terribly. Don't feel bad. Any time you wonder if you're being too harsh, think about how your buddy felt being tossed out," said u/Dezaval.

It was also pointed out that if the OP does let the soon-to-be SIL move back in, he would likely be losing Billy for good. "Billy is beautiful, and if the sister doesn't go, I have a feeling Billy will disappear permanently next time. The sister should be kicked out with no guilt." —u/Kellymargaret

Phew! All the reasons why the two women are wrong in this situation is so apparent. If you want to read more of the comments, you can do so on Reddit here.
