People On Twitter Are Horrified By This Video Of A DJ Calling The Song "Runaway" The "National Anthem Of Syria"

The DJ has since apologised, but there's been no comment from his employer.

A video of a Magaluf boat party has gone viral after it appeared to show a DJ joking that the national anthem of Syria is the 2015 song "Runaway".

The video, initially uploaded to Facebook, shows the DJ – who has been indentified as resident Magaluf DJ Chris O'Toole – asking boat passengers for a moment of silence for "the national anthem of Syria".

He then plays Galantis's 2015 song "Runaway". The passengers sing along and dance to the track.

The passengers were taking part in a Magaluf Booze Cruise – a boat party organised for visitors to the Spanish holiday resort. The website for the cruise advertises it as a two-and-a half-hour cruise involving DJs, dancing, and games.

After being taken down from Facebook, the clip was posted to Twitter, where users have been expressing their distaste towards the joke. According to Amnesty, 4.5 million Syrians – half are which are children – have fled the country since 2011 to escape civil war.

O'Toole has since posted a message to his Facebook page saying that joke does not reflect his "personal views".

BuzzFeed News has reached out to both O'Toole and Magaluf Booze Cruise for comment.
