Marriage can be hard. Once you find the right person, you must put in the work to stay in love. Compromises must be made. Feelings must be taken in account. If you can not navigate love's complicated terrain, divorce is even harder, especially if you are throwing in the towel with a celebrity.
Back around the beginning of this new Millennium, I met a young man from Memphis, Tennessee. His name was Justin and he was charming, talented, and extremely good looking. He had a killer smile and sported a curly blonde afro that not many white guys could get away with. I won't say that it was love at first sight, but I was definitely intrigued.
He was always around these four other guys; clearly not on the same level as him. He got himself a girlfriend and they seemed okay together. I mean, she was all blonde, beautiful, and perky... if you like that sort of thing. I am no hater though. I grew to love her, but she had my man! I don't think she knew what she had until he was gone.
Justin went off to Virginia for a while with his friends Tim and Pharrell and came back a new man. A sexier man. He came back with a whole new swagger. That is when our relationship became so much more. Was the road easy? Definitely not! It took me months to forgive him for what he did to my Auntie Janet after she had invited him to one of her biggest parties. However, love did prevail, especially after he brought the sexy back into my life.
Lately, I have felt a change in his behavior. Although Justin is doing great at work... whenever it is that he decides to show up, it is like he is going through the motions. Everyone always comes up to me and asks me what is going on with my hubby, but I can't even explain anymore. His priorities are different now. He is not MY JT anymore.
Things really got hairy for us after we watched Jesse Williams on the BET Awards. Justin, although he meant well, said a few things that people didn't agree with. I know he had good intentions, but I found myself trying to defend him and some of my friends did as well. However, it is like he is falling out of touch with reality. It has gotten to a point where random drunks are slapping him in public.
Now, I am not the type of man to cheat. I don't care how many grenades Bruno would catch for me or if Sam wants me to leave my lover. I will try to weather this storm. However, if Justin does not start rocking my body the way he use to, I guess I will have to say bye, bye, bye.
