Teach Your Kids The Difference Between A Safe And An Unsafe Touch

At The Red Elephant Foundation, we're looking at ways to help children stay safe and to identify safe adults to help them to safety when they are vulnerable. Here are a couple of our posters and handouts that can help you get the idea across to your kids!

My Safety Rules

This poster can be used to tell your child that no one can make your child feel uncomfortable, and that your child has the freedom to say no and to run to a safe adult. It also subtly establishes the duty not to make anyone feel uncomfortable.

A SMART rule for SMART kids!

Engage your child to be SMART about their safety. Remember that Safe Touches are the only touches that are allowed, and "My Body, My Rules" is very important. It is Always important to say NO to an unsafe touch, and that they should RUN to a safe adult, and TELL them what happened.

This poster can help your children constantly see, receive and internalize this important message of NO-RUN-TELL. The rule is a simple route to staying safe.

Help your children identify three safe adults they can go to, and help them remember that the three places where no one can touch them - Their Bottom, Their Chest, Their Penis / Vagina (we try to remove the notion of 'shame' from these words and avoid sexualizing them by just naming them like you name any other body part).
