16 Things Every Dude Should Already Own

Step your game up, literally.

1. A really good face wash.

You need to wash your face. Every. Damn. Day. If you're not, you're doing yourself a serious injustice. There are so many products out there that can help rejuvenate and radiate your mug.

Budget: NIVEA Men Original Moisturizing Face Wash ($4)

Moderate: Imperial Glycerin Face/Shave Soap ($10)

Luxury: Clinique for Men Charcoal Face Wash ($20)

2. A toner for an extra clean feeling.

Toner is essential for anyone who uses a three-step process (wash, tone, moisturize). According to Dr. Hadley King, a New York City board-certified dermatologist, toner shrinks pores, gives your skin pH balance, adds a layer of protection, and provides a host of other skin benefits. So you should definitely invest in using one of these.

Budget: Clinique for Men Exfoliating Tonic ($13.50)

Moderate: Baxter Herbal Mint Toner ($18)

Luxury: Ursa Major 4-in-1 Essential Face Tonic ($26)

4. You should get something that exfoliates too.

Birchbox

Exfoliators are like face washes — they just often have sugar, salt, or sand grains in them to flake away dead skin from your face.

*The thing about exfoliators though, is that you shouldn't use them every day because you don't want to dry out your skin.

Budget: Billy Jealousy LiquidSand Exfoliating Facial Cleanser ($24)

Moderate: Anthony Facial Scrub ($36)

Luxury: Luna mini 2 ($139)

7. A good scent.

It's nice to get complimented for smelling good. This is a tough one to recommend, but just go to your local department store or Sephora, get a bunch of samples, and then pick one you like the best that matches with your body’s natural scent.

Start here: with Birchbox, read the reviews then go somewhere like Sephora or a department store and give them a test drive.

8. A good deodorant so that you'll remain fresh and clean all day.

Deodorant keeps your pits from smelling bad, duh! Invest in a good one that will last you all day. If you're feeling extra adventurous try a natural deodorant that's free of chemicals and aluminum. You might like it better.

Budget: Dove Men+Care Antiperspirant Deodorant ($3)

Moderate: Herban Cowboy - Deodorant Dusk (~$8)

Luxury: Ursa Major Hoppin’ Fresh Deodorant ($18)

9. If you're a shaver, then get a damn shaving brush.

Shaving brushes may seem extraneous but they actually do serve a purpose. A brush lubricates the beard but gives the added benefit of raising the hairs for a much better shave. If you've never tried it, and you shave often, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.

Budget: Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush ($9.50)

Moderate: Kent Infinity Silvertex Shaving Brush ($24.99)

Luxury: Black Pure Shaving Brush ($60)

12. If you're feeling aggressive: a facial serum

Facial serums are actually legit. I just started using one recently and it's been life-changing. I wash my face with face wash, tone, throw on some serum, then put my moisturizer on over top of it. In just under a week, my skin feels tighter and looks brighter. This is one of those preventative things that you don't think you need now but honestly will help you down the line. To be honest, serum is expensive. Including this type of product in your regime isn't for the faint of heart (or pocket), but it's worth it.

Budget: Brooklyn Grooming Pilgrim's Facial Serum ($36)

Moderate: Lab Series Future Rescue Repair Serum (~$46)

Luxury: Kiehl's Age Defender Power Serum ($50)

13. Some under-eye stuff will help you look alive.

If you always look tired despite getting your 8 hours try some under-eye stuff. They have vitamins and other skin soothing things that help you feel and look more alert.

Budget: Bull Dog Original Eye Roll-On ($12)

Moderate: Kyoku for Men Eye Fuel ($18)

Luxury: Kiehl's Eye Alert ($22.50)

16. A personal groomer for in-between trips to the barber and tidying up downstairs.

instagram.com

If your nose hairs or ear hairs or any other hairs are out of control, keep them at bay with a personal groomer. It's literally so easy to trim these areas, only takes a few minutes, and upgrades your look in literally minutes. This one's great because it has five attachments and you can even clean up your beard with it if you feel comfortable using the same device to trim your balls and face.

Philips Norelco Multigroom Series 3100 (~$19)
