How The Jem & The Holograms Movie Could Have Been Better

With The Jem Movie Set For October 29th ( Cuz halloween isnt scary enough) the internet lite a blaze with both new and old fans voicing their outrage on how unoutrageous and bland the movie seems to be, so why not take a look at what could have made this movie truly outrageous!

1. The Holograms!

Many fans were not happy with the cast that was presented months prior to the trailers reveal. most have made the point that the cast was much younger then their cartoon counterparts, and would have liked to see a much older independent cast. How outrageous would it have been to see a dreamcast of (Mandy Moore) as (Jem / Jerrica Benton). (Jane Levy) as (Kimber Benton). (Yaya Dacosta) As (Shana Elmsford). (Kiko Mizuhara) as (Aja Leith). (Zulay Henao) as (Raya Alonso) And as Jem /jerrica's not so bright boyfriend Rio Pacheco played by (Jared Padalecki)!

2. The story!

Now the Jem cartoon was super crazy with elements taken from the totally insane soap operas of that time, wrapped up in a half in hour 80's music videos that was suited for a Mtv countdown. you would think they would translate this awesome concept to the big screen right? .......... right? Nope! instead we got a not very original take on the story that seems to be lifted right out of a Hannah Montana episode. the direction of this movie could have gone in a super fun not so serious way. think The Brady Bunch movie but put the very 80's holograms in a modern day setting, retrofit the starlight house with vintage takes on modern technology. a wood panel flatscreen a brick style iphone, the possibility's are endless. but with only $5 million dollars what are you gonna do? Even one of the producers of the film Jason Blum has stated (maybe lowering expectations is good) take that in account that all the empowering things that made the show different from other more macho shows of the time is stripped away, each of the leading ladies was a working independent women, from Jerrica running both a record company and a foster home, to Shana being a accomplished fashion designer. this new take seems to take that away from the movie and instead we get the cliche teenage superstar movie....................

3. The Fashion

The Jem fashion is one of the many things that stands out in peoples mind when they think of the show, from bright color hair to outrageous clothes. the first thing you would think would be on the producers minds would putting the cast in some super fun flamboyant clothing but once again they missed the mark. It seems all they did was go to the hot topic and the forever 21 and called it a day. They had so much to work with, from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Beyonce's endless catalog of style over the past 7 or 8 years. but seeing that this movie didn't get the biggest budget as a Gi Joe or a Transformers it was only likely Hasbro would have to skim on the glamor and glitter, fashion and flare, most of that budget more then likely went to Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald.

4. Synergy!

How can you have a Jem movie without the most important character in the show? it seems once again this wasn't in the budget, Without Synergy we wouldn't have the holograms. Emmett Benton invented Synergy to be a surrogate mentor for Jerrica, Kimber and the rest of the girls she was designed to look like Jacqui Benton the late mother of Jerrica and Kimber but was changed do to the fact Emmet thought it would be far to much for the girls to handle, instead he changed her into a 8ft tall glamazon that change the girls to The Holograms, fans remember the iconic moment where Synergy manifest herself in front of Jerrica and the girls, and with her booming voice she exclaimed (JERRICA BENTON I HAVE COME FOR YOU!) I could only imagine a giant cgi Synergy with the motherly voice of Susan Sarandon. I could also see Synergy being able to project herself into different devices, from smart phones to flatscreens and tablets instead of being stuck in the starlight house basement.

5. The Misfis

The Rivals of the Holograms and the main antagonist of the show. they we're their to shake things and make things interesting. the new Jem movie seems to be missing one of the most important part of the show, the reason behind this maybe the rights to the name Misfits is taken, but that could easily be changed to Mizfits seeing as thats how they say it in the show from time to time. also Lady Gaga was made to play Pizzazz, channeling her more rock and roll fame monster era self, also along for the ride is (Katy Perry) as Stormer, (Ke$ha) as Roxy and (Jessie J) as Jetta. I can see these divas making mischief for the Holograms and belting some killer tunes!

6. Eric Raymond

The manager of the Misfts and the mastermind of pretty much all the attempts to get rid of the holograms, that looking back would get him and the Misfits put in jail for a very long time. the movie Eric Raymond or should I say Erica played by Juliette Lewis, seems to be the one the discovers the Holograms and not the Misfits, it also seems that Eric Raymond's rights belong to the shows creator Christy Marx, but if Marx was invited to be apart of the film this wouldn't have happen. Matthew Goode come to mind when I think of Eric. if you seen Goode's role in Watchmen you would know how well he does with playing a deceptive sociopath hellbent on getting what he wants, and for that he would have been the perfect match for this role!

7. The Direction

like the song said its truly truly outrageous, and that's why many fans have a problem with the new movie there is no truly outrageous it just seems sad, bland and colorless, this is mostly due to the movies directors and producers not knowing much about the original show hell in the first announcement video they just called Jem some doll........... why make a movie if you don't know the material. now that being said many fans would have love to have seen Edgar Wright work on the movie, seeing how well he did with the direction of the Scott Pilgrim movie. bringing bright and stylish visuals would work perfectly with the Jem and the Holograms story. I would also love to see Tina Fey work along side Wright, I think Fey would bring a self aware humor to the movie lampooning the sometime ridiculousness of the old show!

All this being said i wanna say in no way do i wanna drag the actresses in the movie through the mud the count down is met to show what could have been, and at the end of the day is just my opinion. now lets hope somewhere down the line we get a reboot worthy of the fans praise!
