Everything We Know About The "Futurama" Reboot And The Mixed Responses It's Receiving From Fans

The first episode of the Futurama reboot will be streaming on Hulu July 24, so naturally, it's time to rewatch the last 10 seasons in less than a month.

Good news, everyone! After 10 long years, Futurama is coming back for its third reboot!

Hulu will be streaming one episode a week starting on July 24. There will be a total of 10 episodes in the season.

This is probably for the best because if they dropped all of them at once, I would vigorously binge every episode in a single day where I stay indoors, don't see the sun, and then feel empty inside until the next season pulls me out of the darkness.

And yes, we are getting the OG cast back in action for the new season!

There were initially some concerns about our favorite booze-fueled robot, Bender, not returning with his same (and iconic) voice actor, John DiMaggio, due to disputes about compensation for the cast. However, he did ultimately choose to rejoin the project. In an interview with Variety, DiMaggio revealed that even though he is involved, he was unable to get the requested pay raise. DiMaggio was quoted saying, "Trying to get money out of Disney is like trying to get blood from a stone — you ain’t gonna get it!"

To give us a little snippet of what's to come, Hulu dropped a quick trailer! I'm preparing for an incredibly lit season, because it showed us barely two minutes, and every second was packed with action.

In past episodes, we've always trusted Futurama to be so, so, very meta. We've seen it numerous times — like when Leela, voiced by Katey Sagal, appears in a situation that directly parodies her role on Married...with Children.

So, it's a pretty classic Futurama vibe to lean into self-awareness. We get to see that right away in the trailer, when Planet Express is shown landing at "Fulu" and the characters announce that it's their new home.

We'll be streaming a show that features its streaming service on the show. Like I said, so meta. This feels like when Seinfeld wrote an episode of Seinfeld on an episode of Seinfeld.

Futurama has always pulled from real-life events, and I'm gonna let you guess which global phenomenon this season is tackling in true satirical fashion.

In addition to the coronavirus, there are mentions of cryptocurrency as a plot point in a Western-themed episode that is gonna leave all the bitcoin bros super shook.

And oh my god...we are getting a cameo from this queen/cursed puffy Cheeto with infinite teeth — the sandworm from Dune.

The show has never been one to shy away from what's really going on in the world, but some people on Twitter aren't super stoked about the new season's content:

I definitely understand where everyone is coming from. Reboots can be hit or miss, especially when they try to cover sensitive or modern subjects but end up coming off as out of touch. In my soul, I know I'm just a Futurama stan who hopes to see the show rebooted into eternity. I mean, they had a solid revival before, so let's see if they've done it again! 🚀
