5 Instances That Prove That Meredith Grey Is A Superhuman Mutant Who Will Never Die

In honor of tonight's Grey's Anatomy spring premiere, which has Dr. Meredith Grey looking pretty rough, let's look at five other situations that prove that no matter how Dark and Twisty her life gets, Meredith Grey is indestructible.

That Time She Threw Herself Into Freezing Cold Water and Decided Not To Swim

All the way back in season 3, Meredith Grey was feeling sad. Then a ferryboat crashed, she went to help, and ended up falling into the freezing cold harbor, where, as she would later admit, she "stopped swimming" for a minute. By the time Derek (in one of his McDreamiest moments ever,) pulled her out of the water, she was intern-scrub-blue. After basically being clinically dead for the better part of three episodes, Cristina and the newly-dead Ellis Grey somehow brought her back to life.

That Time She Voluntarily Stuck Her Hand Into a Body Cavity to Hold On to an Unstable Bomb

The ferry crash wasn't the first time that Meredith Grey exercised questionable judgement in regards to her own mortality, (and it certainly wouldn't be the last.) All the way back in Season 2, Christina Ricci guest starred as a young EMT, who unknowingly has her hand on an active bomb (from a bazooka) inside a patient's chest. As the EMT starts to freak out, Meredith, in a snap judgement, replaces Ricci's hand with her own, mumbling, "What did I do?" over and over again. I don't know, Meredith, WHAT DID YOU DO??

Over the course of 2 episodes, she was able to pull her hand out and escape the situation, but not before the bomb detonated in the hands of the very sexy bomb Squad guy, 5 feet away from her. Don't worry, though, she didn't just live, she lived and then shot a steamy shower scene with Cristina and Izzy, that, under other circumstances, was the stuff of poor O'Malley's dreams, may he RIP.

That Time She Stepped In Front of a Crazed Gunman and Asked Him To Shoot Her

In what is/are possibly the (two) best Grey's Anatomy episode(s) of all time, the Season 6 finale found the staff of Seattle Grace at the mercy of disgruntled (and seriously deranged) Gary Clark. Mr. Clark didn't like that his wife had died in the hospital, and was going to prove it, by basically killing everything that crossed his path. His main targets though, were Derek, Lexie, and Chief Webber. Meredith was having none of this, and so when Mr. Clark strolled into the OR where Cristina and Jackson were operating on a dying Derek, Meredith also strolled in, and point blank (see what I did there?) asked this psychopath to shoot her instead. Luckily for her, Jackson Avery and his beautiful eyes thought quick, and saved her life.

I mean, I get it, love, and family, and all of that, but seriously, Meredith? Seriously? You have some death wish issues that need legit sorting out.

That Time She Had First Year Interns Operate On Her In The Middle of a Frankenstorm, In The Dark

Okay, as I remember it, there wasn't a whole lot Meredith could do about this one, which occurred during the Season 9 finale. She went into labor in the middle of the storm of the century, and ended up needing emergency surgery in a powerless hospital that somehow eerily resembled Frankenstein's lab, because of course she would. Despite watching herself bleed out on the table as her interns bumbled around like idiots, she and baby Bailey both came out on the other side relatively unharmed. Which is a good thing, because that baby was ADORABLE.

That Time Her Plane Crashed, and She Legit Froze In The Woods For a Week Waiting to be Rescued

Last but not least, Meredith Grey (and a solid half of the SGMW surgical staff) legit fell through the sky as their plane, traveling from Seattle to Boise straight up CRASHED IN THE WOODS, during the Season 7 finale. If the Season 6 finale is (in my opinion) one of the best Grey's episodes ever, this, and the ensuing fallout, is hands down one of the saddest. Not only did we watch in horror for 60 minutes as our favorite characters struggled (and, in some cases, failed) to stay alive in the woods; Shonda Rhimes also left the episode as a MASSIVE CLIFFHANGER, making us wait, wonder, and worry all summer about who would live, and who would die. And, boy, did we lose some good characters (and limbs) in that damn crash. But, not to worry, Meredith Grey survived. Just like always. BECAUSE SHE IS INDESTRUCTIBLE.

So, don't worry about tonight. Whatever they throw at her, she'll come out alright in the end. She always does.
