Actors And Directors That Can’t Get Enough Of Each Other

The Bromance is Real…

1. Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have worked on five films together, the most recent being THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. Robert De Niro was once considered Scorsese’s go-to actor, but this title has belonged to DiCaprio since they first worked together on GANGS OF NEW YORK in 2002. DiCaprio even thanked Scorsese in his Academy Award Acceptance Speech earlier this year, “For teaching me so much about the cinematic art form.”

2. Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney

The dynamic duo have partnered together on six films: OUT OF SIGHT, SOLARIS, THE GOOD GERMAN and three of the OCEANS movies. The two still could not get enough of each other and formed their own production company, Section Eight Productions. In 2005, the company’s films SYRIANA and GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK picked up eight Academy Award nominations between them. Not too shabby.

3. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp

The Burton-Depp collaborations extend to eight films including SWEENEY TODD, ALICE IN WONDERLAND and CORPSE BRIDE. The pair first began working together on the 1990 cult hit EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, a film based on a drawing a young Tim Burton drew largely representative of himself. Finding the actor to embody such a character proved difficult until Depp walked into the room...and the rest is history.

4. Peter Billingsley and Vince Vaughn

Peter Billingsley (aka Ralphie from A CHRISTMAS STORY) and Vince Vaughn go way back. The pair met on the CBS Schoolbreak Special in the early ‘90s, which lead to the two becoming roommates and starting their production company, Wild West Picture Show Productions. Billingsley definitely knows a true bro always has his friend’s back, as he has executive-produced several of Vaughn’s films including FOUR CHRISTMASES and THE BREAK UP. Billingsley and Vaughn most recently worked together on the film, TERM LIFE available in theaters, on VOD and iTunes on April 29th.

5. Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks

The names Spielberg and Hanks are epic in the world of entertainment. Even more so is their collaboration which has led to a whopping eleven partnered films including SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and TERMINAL. The crazy thing is that this pair did not meet as established colleagues, but as neighborhood dads who discovered a common interest. Says Hanks, “When we got to know each other as guys who live in the same part of town and had kids all about the same age, operating in the same nonprofessional circles, we developed a language that was all about how we read history for pleasure”. Just neighbors helping neighbors.

6. Wes Anderson and Bill Murray

When Wes Anderson first cast Bill Murray in the film RUSHMORE, we bet he had no idea he had found a lasting collaborator and partner. The two’s working relationship has spanned over a decade. The partnership has garnered seven films together, including most recently THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. What is the secret to their successful partnership? Loyalty seems to be a defining factor as Anderson reveals, “I always write with Bill in mind”.

7. Christopher Nolan and Michael Caine

2004’s BATMAN BEGINS was the beginning of the collaborative partnership between Christopher Nolan and Michael Caine that has since garnered six films. Caine starred in all three BATMAN installments as well as Caine’s THE PRESTIGE, INCEPTION and the critically acclaimed INTERSTELLAR. Caine says meeting Nolan marked "an incredible change in my life”.

8. Steve McQueen and Michael Fassbender

Oddly enough, this bromance was not love at first sight. Steve McQueen recalls Michael Fassbender’s 2008 audition for another project and reveals, “When I first saw him I thought he was a bit cocky”. Luckily after a second meeting the ice melted and the two have since collaborated on three films including the prolific 12 YEARS A SLAVE. We know this is only the beginning for these bromantic soulmates.
