5 M. Night Shyamalan Films Worth Remembering

Remember when there was a time M. Night Shyamalan had good buzz before disasters like "The Last Airbender"? Well, here are 5 that deserve to be watched—and remembered—from his most innovative attempts. He's in production for two new films, so here's to hoping this kind of work will be making a reappearance someday.

Ok, so aliens decide to take over the earth and leave crop circles in Mel Gibson's field. Not so scary, but you have to admit the story takes a cool turn when every character plays an important role in the final scenes. Also, a young Abigail Breslin and Rory Culkin wear tin foil hats with Joaquin Phoenix to keep the camoflouge aliens from reading their minds—which may be the best part.

The Sixth Sense

You have to admit, it was a little tough to figure this one out if you're not paying close attention. There are details that lead to to figure out what's really going on—Bruce Willis is actually dead. Haley Joel Osment's "I see dead people," may have been the best (or worst) thing to come from this thriller.

Samuel L. Jackson and the return of Bruce Willis to the director's screen make for a good start for movie characters. The story is fascinating as Willis' character has never been sick and Jackson's been ill for most of his life. The plot twists and turns, making this a puzzle to remain intrigued until the very end.

The Village

Bryce Dallas Howard's first major motion picture role didn't necessarily pay off with high grades, but it did get her name out there. This creepy little remote town keeps the outside world shut out to protect their people from danger. Howard's faithful attempt to save her love (Joaquin Phoenix's second Shyamalan appearance) showcases bravery as she flees the village—who is also blind—in search of medicine. I own this film and I'm not ashamed.

Lady in the Water

Bryce Dallas Howard's return in Shyamalan's weird bedtime story come to life as discovered by Paul Giamatti's character in the bottom of his apartment complex's pool. Strange story with not-so-great acting, but worth a watch.
